Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Stop using this board as your source in meetings

Unless your sentence starts with “I read on The Layoff that…” stop acting like this is an actual source. Anyone can say anything here. The second-hand embarrassment is so strong when someone starts repeating Layoff gossip in a meeting, acting like they have a real “source.” You also out yourself to anyone else who comes to this panic zone. Just stop, I can’t take it anymore.

Also the actual layoff number is 17% of WHQ, a VP told me.

@utz Who said I disagreed? Who said I didn’t talk to them? Quoting an anon message board in a professional context is embarrassing as he-l and you look like fools when you do it. Please, either just stop embarrassing yourselves or grow up and own that you are repeating gossip from The Layoff. Dollars to donuts these are the same people who complain about never getting promoted!

New estimate just dropped!! ”Largest ever”!! Everyone update your gossip talking points for your meetings. The new estimate is now 700 - INFINITY. Such great information here, definitely worth repeating in a professional meeting!!

Don’t forget, it’s actually 17%.

@OP, maybe you should consider following your own advice. Next time you find yourself disagreeing with someone's opinion in a meeting, try communicating that directly in the meeting or send them a direct message instead of using an “unreliable and unofficial” line of communication.

I don’t know the actual layoff number but one thing is certain: this will be the largest layoff in Nike history. More than a few people will be let go who weren’t expecting it. Those people will learn a painful lesson: their Nike job was always just a job and they were always just an expense on a spreadsheet. This is especially difficult at Nike given the amount of time and effort Nike spends trying to brainwash employees into believing that Nike is somehow special or different. It isn’t. Too many people will be forced to confront this reality in coming months.

The people who survive the layoff won’t be much better off, although they’ll at least still have an income. Layoffs cause long lasting trust and morale issues. We’ve already seen that from previous Nike layoffs. You’ll still have your job but will be constantly wondering if in another three years it will then be your turn.

The lack of information/communication from leadership creates a vacuum that will be filled. Like it or not....cr@p management, cr@p results. Start sending hand mirrors to sr managers...

The math is pretty straight forward:

$450m has been set aside for severance costs. Even assuming really generous packages of $150,000, that’s 3,000 people.

Yes there will be some senior people that get a couple of million each, which will bring the number down.

There will also be a lot of lower level people that get less than $150,000 which will bring that total number impacted right back up.

Because I’m ELT and any time someone does this in a meeting I write it down and then I tell your manager that you are weak-minded so they can remember that when they are doing your CFE.

How do you say not to believe or use this as a source and then drop something why in the he-l would we believe that. But facts are facts people called the 4:1 RTO back in August-September. We found out November. Someone has even floated that a complete week is coming in June , these rumors while they can be wild hold a lot of truth not everyone in here lying .

@ige+1qvCosmM based on what? You know Nike math be mathin.

200M in 2020 was 700 people so at 450M, 2k doesn’t seem so unreasonable anymore, does it?

You say this but everything I've heard in meetings that clearly came from this board has turned out to be true

20% would be 2,000 people
Which seems way too high

Wrong … it’s 100% of janitorial staff. Fridays will now be cleaning days for level 40 and below.

This board is a source. Everyone is too scared to speak up because we see what happens to people when they do. Go back to kissing a-s, you may be on the list for all you know.
