Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Oracle like massive layoff will never happen at Cisco

Largely because unlike cold blooded Safra and Clay, Chuck and Jettu are ultimately cowards. It takes a special kind of spine to make massive decisions like these. Cisco will keep the drip drip of San Jose only layoffs at a rate that essentially is cover for lack of making tough decisions. I worked at both Oracle and Cisco and say what you will about either company but Oracle will invest their last dollar into a few bets even if nobody believes them. Right now, their bet is AI Infra. Before that, it was OCI. Cisco will always peanut butter - both investments and layoffs because leadership is utterly incompetent to make hard choices.

@OP Each to their own OP! Disagree with you whole heartedly! Larry Ellison is a straight piece of 💩 for what he did! He’s old anyways!

@OP Sadly, more the common effects of companies on the down slide - and they recognize it and just manage the decline.

It takes a special kind of spine to make massive decisions like these.

A quick check with the Google machine says Oracle has 162,000 employees of which 30,000 would be 18.5%. Cisco in 2001 laid off 13,000 of 48,000 which was 27%. Oracle's revenue is only 8.5% greater than Cisco's and even after the layoffs revenue per employee at Oracle will be well under that of Cisco.

Another quick check of the Google machine returns this AI analysis:

Oracle frequently conducts layoffs, often on an annual or bi-annual basis, frequently tied to restructuring for cloud, AI, or specific acquisition integrations (such as Cerner).

Oracle seems to be the same kind of messed up that other legacy companies like Cisco are.

it's a different company, different bus model.
i am surprised they waited this long.
our time will come, just unsure how wide and how deep the cut will be.
also, our motivations will be different, different triggers etc.
it's a horrible day for oracle employees.
we are getting tired of winning.
