Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Has anyone ever been rehired by IBM after being RAed?

And if you went back, did you think that maybe you'd lost your f---ing mind?

"Untrainable" employees point to flaws with the Hiring Managers Screening and the Hiring Process.

After all, employees are supposed to be screened before being hired, aren't they ?

Maybe these "Untrainable" employees need to consider taking legal action after being laid off for AI.

You made a very good point. I hope the admin makes a move about outsourcing very soon. People are hurting, plus even if you have a job, people are concerned.

For instance, Accenture was all over the media yesterday. It's incredible. "Oh, we have no choice, we are getting rid off UNTRAINABLE employees for AI, we are in a time crunch". Untrainable employees is the new one. I mention them because we also have consulting.

Q4 is going to be really tough for everybody.

Today its hard. In a normal world you would never ever go back, IBM is getting worse by the day not better, and they will treat you like dirt no matter what they say to get you back, and get rid of you again in an instant.

But the job market is terrible right now, worst it has ever been. So if your not working, then I'd go back, as any job is better than no job. If you are working I'd avoid like the plague, unless you think your at risk with you current job

Spent 18 years there. I could never go back. It was such an awful work environment. Would not be worth the stress and dealing with the sh---y management

Would be really silly if they ask you to come back and then they make your life miserable. If they ask me to come back, I'd tell them, "I'm coming back to do the job, not to play games or engage in stupid politics, so unless you guarantee you'll leave me alone, I'm not doing it".

Agree. My old mgr asked me if I’d consider coming back and I don’t know. It was such a toxic work environment but I did enjoy the actual work. It’s a real conundrum!

Back in the day (decades ago), there was indeed a revolving door. Employees who were RA'd often came back the next day as contractors. The rates they charged as contractors were often greater than their pre-RA employment salaries, even when accounting for the loss of employee benefits.

In those days, critical employees were often RA'd before management figured out how critical they were to the business. I imagine that's still the case today. The difference between "yesterday" and "today" is IBM's overall size and working room. IBM used to have lots of divisions and lines of business, and therefore lots of opportunities to employ both employees and contractors. IBM is a much smaller company now because of the ongoing downsizing actions, so there just aren't as many opportunities. Also, the constant downsizing has resulted in legions of former employees throughout all relevant industries around the world, warning everybody about what's been happening.

When it comes to hiring or even rehiring, IBM is now in a much different position than in the past. The company once declared as "surplus" not only employees but entire lines of business, before disposing of both. Now they need both new opportunities for lines of business, and new employees. They are having great difficulty finding either.

I hate to be the first to say this but every month I get an email from some sh---y IBM Alumni group called "IBM Talent Acquisition" asking me to consider coming back - to IBM. Why on earth would I want to subject myself to becoming yet another "battered returning employee" statistic for a total f-ckup of a company like IBM ?

Let ba----ds like Alvind and his incompetent executive Pipmunks sink in their own private Titanic cesspool for eternity. It is what they truly deserve.
