Yes it comes from your PTO balance. Always has unfortunately.
Yes you’re required to take your PTO consecutively because some people in the past never took PTO so they can always stick around and no one can find out that they were doing sketchy stuff. They always had to be covering it up.
trust me, they can and they will take it from PTO.
How could a required 10-day away from work be taken from your PTO bank?
If it's a requirement, it's not PTO.
This is nothing new. It has nothing to do with pto accrual. It’s a regulatory issue for FINRA licensed employees. There are audits of your work. Unfortunately in most cases you don’t get to pick when you want the 10 days to be.
That's very typical for certain functions in the financial industry.
there are certain employees types that are required to take time away. I worked for a company once that forced everyone to take a week off per year and disconnected their access when they did so to ensure they actually took time away. The work will always be there.
Wouldn't surprise me if they started making all employees in PTO Cap states, like California, start taking mandatory time off like this so they can get some of it off the books.

@OP have not, however that is a standard or was a standard practice in financial services for almost 100 years. It allows any thing you may have been sitting on to bubble up.
