I hope all the new hires know this. It's good for a paycheck while you look for something better, but never a long-term play. The constant layoff cycles are predictable as sunrise. If you go in knowing this and plan accordingly, fine. But get attached at your peril.

I stayed at HPE longer than I should have. When I was about to leave, a software developer told me that it was rough out there and he wasn’t kidding.
The panel interviews can be excruciating because there’s always that person who wants to submarine you or they want you to code an app in front of them.
I found out that the very best companies don’t make you jump through those hoops. They ask about your background and projects that you worked on.
This is a the feel good story this site needs from time to time. Rock on.
No, HP/HPE was been my only job since graduating college with an engineering degree. I was 22 when I started, I always live below my means and invested at least the company matching to my 401k. After 40 years of employment it's not hard to accumulate multi-millions if you don't touch the money and invest it in the stock market, very simple formula that most people don't abide to. I still work hard I love my job to plan on working for a few more years before I sail into retirement as a happy camper.
@16g 118 did not say that he made the millions from being employed with HPE. He probably made it with a side gig which working at HPE allowed him to do. Let's be happy for him.
@118 That makes me feel better, it's nice to hear a hard working, loyal employee actually is being treated well. Just don't count it always being like there, I can promise there is no loyalty coming from the other side. Don't be sorry for me, I truly am very happy things have worked out just fine. Best wishes to you!!
Nope, a individual contributor my whole career, always working in the trenches as you stated. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
Interesting and good for you! My experience at HP/HPE is that the majority in high level positions, which it sounds like you must be, got there stepping on the backs of those who are in the trenches doing the work and being underpaid and then discarded like a piece of unwanted garbage. But hey, I'm sure you earned your position. I'm no longer at HPE and being laid off after 18 years of busting my butt was a blessing, I haven't slept this good in years. I thank God every day for releasing me from such a toxic and greedy company.
The layoff cycle is every single quarter.
I feel the same as the person below having 43 years invested. It was a great place in time to be an HP employee. With that said the first part of my journey with HP/HPE was very different than the second and nothing like it is today. So I doubt if someone starting today would be able to experience what we did!
I have absolutely had a wonderful career at HP/HPE and it's still going strong. I am forever grateful for the life this company is provided me. I met my wife at work raised two beautiful children and became a multi millionaire. Yes, this company can be a stepping stone or it could be a lifelong career all depends on what you're looking to achieve in life.
@kw every quarter, like clockwork
@OP How often are the layoff cycles? I am currently considering a job offer at HPE.
it's been a stepping stone for 2+ decades now. The only people that should stay there a long time are long time employees riding it out until Social Security can kick in. Coming out of college should bounce within 5 years.
