Our new manager expects everyone to be on call at any time of day like they are. Guess some people think burning out is a badge of honor. If that’s the direction things are going, I might start looking elsewhere. Not interested in pretending work is the only thing that matters. Life’s too short for that nonsense.

"Answer late night calls so your manager doesn't have to." Why won't anyone think of the poor managers?
@OP Not sure who you manager is but you do realize that most managers are the primary escalation point for all on call shifts. Meaning they can be called 24x7 365 days. So when you blow off the on call you are also causing the secondary on call and the manager to pick up your slack. I have been in this industry for over 30 years and I have always been required to be available day and night. If you hate on calls or being paged out at all times of the night I suggest you get into another career field. Quite being an a-s and support your team.
Sounds like you're in managed services. Good luck as that Mgr expects 24/7 even with after hours processes in place.
You mean to tell me simply having a job isn't enough? You should be thankful they employ you at all /s
Unless you job description states you're on call 27/4, tell them to shove and go. They cannot make a material change like that to a role unofficially.
I was advised by the VP of my group that I had the option to NOT answer my phone or text. Good luck finding me when a major client is down. Fiserv rules are going to be exercised in this iteration of what is left of a once great company
Pick a few: Ask for specific oncall requirement details in writing. You live in an area without good cell coverage. You have personal volunteer commitments most nights and weekends, and you aren’t comfortable sharing details with work. You and spouse are caregivers to an elderly parent. You share caregiving to young children with spouse.
Imagine the tax savings by having the office be a cemetery!
This place is FUDGED!!
Join the marketing team then. No work, high pay and party all the time.
Ignore them.
Fiserv mantra. Burn the midnight oil until the employee is broken and quits. Good career path if you don’t mind the risks like heart attack, stroke, cancer, etc that comes with it. Lol. Unless you are like a select few that doesn’t let it bother them. I’m not one of them.
~ 11 year associate that just started applying to GTFO. I hope sapience tracks my last breath so if I don’t make it to a new company in time to save my life… the time of death stamp can go on my f’n gravestone as it will probably be on BKH’s property when I go.
