Strategy to improve visibility

Talking to my manager is a kind of mental gymnastics and it's really frustrating. Everything he says is vague and often leads to misunderstandings. He recently advised me to try to be more visible here if I want to progress, but without explaining what that actually means. Any advice?

If someone stated you need visibility and it’s something they are constantly repeating then it’s time to look for a new JOB. Honestly it’s the only way to grow.

I worked at a great place in the past, my work was my visibility. It's a sad truth that here you have to network and bootlicking to get visible.

I think what your manager is trying to say is volunteer for projects, join drg groups, and of course, network. Best of luck to you.

ID: @OP+1gBh4Aqh If you don't understand what your manager is saying, that's a problem you have. You can call it what you will but networking and knowing, being seen by others is a very basic concept. If you don't understand that you may just as well crawl back under your rock and disappear.

I did this and it paid off.
During a manager's meet-and-greet, I sat right beside a fella, what, 4 levels above me.
Before the start, he returned with a jelly donut to the front row.
As he spoke with one of his immediate subs, I took his donut and sucked out the jelly, returning it to his plate.
There was so much laughter, you couldn't imagine.
Visibility!
