Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Covid sick days?

How is it that we don’t have extra sick days due to covid? People are working with covid from home which isn’t efficient and other people have to half watch their kids and work at the same time. No one wants to take PTO to be sick.

Another benefit of leaving WF. My new employer offers vacation (27 days) AND sick time (10 days) in separate buckets, plus annual employee appreciation days, volunteer time, and 12 holidays.

Unlikely I'll ever use all the sick time alloted each year, but it sure comes in handy if me or my kids get sick.

PTO is intended to cover all: vacation, sick, etc. If you're really sick, you can use short-term disability. If you're otherwise feeling OK, work from home. Don't drag your germs into the office for the sake of being there. I hated that at WF. I was 7 months pregnant and a coworker was coughing constantly two cubes over with a diagnosis of walking pneumonia 🙄

Second company I worked for you got 15 days of vacation plus about a week of sick leave. The sick leave you could carry over to the next year. When I severely broke my leg and had to be out for recovery, I was able to use 3 weeks of sick leave without ever dipping into vacation. It was also very rare for someone to come into the office obviously sick because you would just be told to go home and use a sick day anyway. I can count on one finger how many times I got sick with something like the flu in the ten years I was there.

I really don't understand why all companies don't implement that sort of policy. It's a low cost way to buy employee satisfaction, win in the job offer wars, and also decreasing chances of an outbreak in your office.

OMG this is beyond the pale. You accrue

I’ve called in sick 7 times in 40 years, 2 of them surgeries. I worked at home for 14 straight days with COVID (tech, we work 7 day weeks ROUTINELY).

Where are all of you burning your sick days if you have none left for COVID? I see the problems here is with the work ethic, and it’s not pretty.

My kid has been out of daycare basically the whole month due to Covid closures and positive case. it has been the hardest working situation ever, considering the majority of my job is meeting focused! My kid is too little to take care of their self. I was still expected to work and it’s been a disaster honestly! I think because we are remote it’s frowned upon to miss work but honestly anyone trying to finagle this cluster with limited resources is a nightmare

I will never burn a PTO day when I’m sick. Never! Lots of companies have unlimited sick days. Obviously if you abuse it they can request a doctors note. If WF doesn’t want people coming in sick they should do the same. It’s insane to think people will voluntarily use their vacation time when they aren’t feeling well.

PTO. Paid Time Off. To use for whatever you need it for. Vacation, sick kid, elder care, waiting for a delivery, whatever. That includes sick time for you. Don’t want to use PTO when you get sick?
Don’t get sick.

Before Covid we had people coming in coughing all over everybody because they didn’t want to use their PTO. Much better to spread your illness to everyone else. I couldn’t believe they didn’t get sent home. Of course if I said anything I was the problem.

Hate those selfish A-holes. At least Covid solved that problem for a while.

Goodness sakes, if you are that sick, you should get approved for short term. Everyone has leave unless your tenure is super new. Wells has decent benefits for their employees if you've shopped around at all. So even if you do have to use PTO for a few sick days.....at least you have those and you are paid for it. Yes, people need to read up and understand what they are elgible for and what is available before whining on this site and complaining about what likely isn't correct.

lol the people at this company are so incredibly, incredibly stupid. If you go to teamworks and search covid you literally cannot miss the time away policy.

Doing anything more than moving your mouse every 5 minutes is literally too much to ask of you mo--ns.

Read the covid policy. There is the non-routine time away code to use but have to have a verified test or doctors attestation. .

When PTO was created at WF it combined vacation, personal and sick days so PTO is sick days.

If you're working from home, you can still work sick. I've had to work with kids running around due to daycare closures as well. Most if not all people completely understand the situation. It sucks, but just have to manage through it. I get more mad at tye daycare if anything else.

PTO offered is enough time to handle sickness. Numerous companies began that practice years ago and Wells Fargo is of that ilk.

I’d say their policy is very generous and allows for the occasional sick day. Youre welcome to try to find a company that matches PTO from day one.
