U.S.-India Outsourcing Economy

At least 300,000 Indian workers, plus at least 300,000 immediate family members are waiting for green cards.

They are waiting because investors, Fortune 500 companies, and the Indian government together created a U.S.-India Outsourcing Economy, in which roughly 200,000 Indian graduates are imported each year to replace American graduates or to bring U.S. white collar jobs back to India.

The little recognized outsourcing economy keeps at roughly one million Indians legal and illegal workers in the United States. This population floods the white collar labor market and cuts opportunities and salaries for American professionals, so boosting stock values for American investors and sending roughly $80 billion in trade back to India.

Yet another rabble rouser - this OP. China was , and remains, the world number scoundrel. The country flooded the US with ultra cheap goods. What did the US do? Give China the Most Favored Nation (MFN) status!

Then China steals IP from the US. It goes on to found companies that are good at mimicry: Huawei, Alibaba, Baidoo. You will find that their model is copied from Cisco, Amazon and Google respectively. They are not great at even copying . So their copycat companies sort of do just fine. Where is India in all this? A poor country that is founded in democratic principles . The world’s largest democracy in fact. They do not have a single local company in the fortune 50. Not one. They want a lot of opportunities like any country. It is a natural ally of the US. In fact , you want a good presence in India so you could open a shop one day and make profits. That is exactly what JP , Goldman, BOA and Morgan Stanley do. Wells : a bit late to the party. And still confused about who our friend and foes are.

It's not even outsourcing, it's insourcing jobs on US soil to foreign workers. 71% of all employees at Silicon Valley companies are on H1B visas. That's over 900,000 jobs held by foreigners, but in the US.

It's not because H1Bs are cheaper. Big Tech doesn't like US citizens for other reasons.

Here is a list of the companies who sponsor the most H1-B visas in the US:

http://www.myvisajobs.com/Reports/2020-H1B-Visa-Sponsor.aspx

Note some of the average salaries paid for H1-Bs:

Facebook: $166,068
Google: $143,373
Microsoft: $142,132
Amazon: $134,117

It also costs companies an average of $10,000 in legal fees to process every H1-B visa.

25 years ago the U.S. decided to help India develop their economy and military to offset a predicted more militant China.

Go to a profit driven part of the company or sales. Those Indian workers can't sell ice to an eskimo. Add tangible value and you should always be gainfully employed. Focus on what you can control.

Yeah – old news - it's no secret that many jobs can be outsourced, and most of these outsourced jobs on track to be automated at some point — might still be some low-level low wage jobs in call centers of lowest common denominator. So lifecycle is: 1) traditional US Job 2)outsourced jobs to India/China and 3) probably on track for automation/AI or even lower wages for jobs that survive.

Embrace it. I foresee 10 years from now, the U.S. will have everything that can be outsourced or automated be removed from the U.S. workers. This is only the beginning. Reason: U.S. workers simply cost too much.

@taw Where have you been for the last 20 years? Not new, but fairly recent to Wells Fargo.
