Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Essential business?

In my state only essential business can be open
I am a SM, going in to work each day. Explain why I am essential. Why is my part time staff making more than me staying home and I am risking my health every day?
Our returning staff is given the option to return, they can choice to stay on unemployment. Why would they come back? They are making more staying home protecting themselves and their families.
I was never given an option to go on unemployment. Why? How come I am being forced to work and not only that, my pay cut?

Unemployment pays $ 600 a week on top of any benefit they have coming, so unemployed store staff are getting paid more to stay home than the store manager with the decreased salary. That makes no sense.

“I am not saying that it is okay to have our pay cut.”

Aight. Well don’t call us delusional for being p-ss-d off. You just said it was not okay.

And stop assuming we’re all spending the same that we used to, for f’s sake.

The only delusion occurring is some twat-waffle thinking they know it all and acting like a life coach.

I think most will agree SMs are underpaid to start with. Some SMs couldn’t take a pay cut because they were already at the federal minimum.

If you think Follett is the only company with layoffs or paycuts, you're delusional. Many others have it much worse. I'm not sayings it's okay to have our salary cut, but you can't spend the same on expanses if you're not generating revenue. Simple economics.

Only at Follett. Nothing but respect for their employees.

"Given the unprecedented strain the coronavirus pandemic is placing on company resources, we made the difficult decision to temporarily pause milestone service anniversary awards effective May 1."

Why the assumption by the Family and Senior Management that the poor ignorant associates are too stupid to manage their money and they must be living beyond their means with mortgages 3 times their annual salary? It's insane to make that assumption (you're mo–ns). I guess in your minds we deserve to take pay cuts because we're just too stupid. Wait, let me book another trip to Germany with ML and Dad to pick up my new BMW and drive it around before shipping it back to the US. Good thing I have those credit cards!
I wish the family and the senior management team to feel real financial pain for your insulting and hateful attitude toward associates who worked so hard to make your company successful.

Some w—rr clearly has come to the opinion that they have insights to all of our finances and how we are living. They are expert enough in all of our lives that they are able to determine we are living outside our means!

Way to blame the employees for the decisions of the big cheeses.

Stop making assumptions about what the how much mortgage is, heartless. 10% pay cut is enough to hinder people’s ability to pay.

If your mortgage is 3 times what your annual salary is... You are living beyond your means. If you are not paying for your vacations out of your checking account and using credit. You are living beyond your means.

Just so you don't misconstrue the loathing and disdain the Family and the management team have for you. There it is and Bob's you Uncle!
You're lucky you have a job!
If you don't like it, quit.

Telling people not to live beyond their means after the company has delivered layoffs and pay cuts? Riiiiiiight.

Millions were laid off and have no clue what their future holds. You have a job. You're able to pay your mortgage. You're here to provide a service to students so they can get an education.
Quit crying. Don't like it? You're free to leave.

Part timer here, 25hrs a week approximately. Usually make about 350. pre tax per week. Unemployment i am getting $770. Per week. The ast. Manager is getting $900. per week.
I love my boss, we have become close friends and great co workers, we have a great team. She works very hard and I feel terrible she is doing my job and everyone else's and I am bringing home a lot more a week than she is. It is just wrong in so many ways.

Don't confuse essential with abused. College bookstores provide educational materials to students, staff and faculty. Education is essential. Abused is being called to work without any protective materials that will keep you safe while you're doing your essential work.
follett is abusive. Abusive since 2012. Proud family heritage in abuse and abusive behavior. Multi-generational abusive.

Sounds like Stockholm Syndrome. Can't wait to get back to work for a company that treats you like dirt and doesn't even care if you have appropriate PPE equipment?
Unreal.

@OP+14HsmF2A: I am sure your part time staff would rather be working then staying home. I know for a fact, my SM is not doing much work because our store is closed. We get maybe 5-6 online orders a day and all the work I left behind is not getting done and if it is... not to my specifications (lol). Yes, the extra UI money is nice, but I'd rather be working. Yes Follett is a sh–ty company to work for but I enjoy my campus and my coworkers. I miss them all.

I'm in the exact same boat.

The reason is because Follett doesn't care about you. It really is as simple as that. We receive no PPE or sanitizing equipment. We're now expected to do more with less, risk our own health and safety, and get paid less to boot. Anyone who still thinks this company cares at all about its workers is delusional.
