Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Interesting RTO development

I heard that for return to office they plan on assigning work styles (in office, office-centric or remote) to roles vs teammates. Once they do this they're going to look at how teammates map to the roles. They may not initially ask teammates to relocate or layoff any teammates because they can't align to the work style for the role they're in, but I can see that as a natural progression. At a minimum if someone is working as a remote teammate for a role that should be office-centric then the replacement resource could not be remote and would have to be hired as in the office 4 days a week.

What are your thoughts? As someone who's current 'remote' I'm concerned as my role will likely be designated as office-centric and I'm worried about how long I have before being forced out for not being able to adhere to the work style for my role.

Just have to be one of those litigious teammates :)

Truist is not going to require teammates with medical accommodations RTO. Reason being - lawsuits. This would be an easy EEOC ADA lawsuit. A former Wells Fargo employee sued Wells and got millions as dude had a ADA recognized disability and they fired him for not RTO. Same type of litigation could easily happen at Truist

I got the ADHD too. That's why they hired me. That's why I be eating cereal every morning. I go into the office every day.

Someone on my team has Dr's note saying that he has mobility issues and has trouble walking so he gets to work from home. Lives 10 minutes away from the Raleigh office. He and I jog 3 times a week and we play on the same team in our soccer league. Don't tell me he can't walk. They do need to cut down on the excuses because they aren't real.

@Mgiz+1tqJUDvl Hi! The ADHD person I'm talking about is faking it. Just an excuse to work from home. The point is that the person's using a fake excuse to work from home and Truist isn't questioning it. I don't think it's fair that some of us have to come in and some get fake doctor's notes to stay home. It's the fault of HR and our managers.

@Lgcw+1tqJUDvl covid isn't gone - especially for the immunocompromised. Guessing publicly about someone else's medical conditions is cowardly, you should be ashamed of yourself. ADHD is also real. Imagine being so small, so petty, that you pay attention to other people's personal health on this level. It is creepy.
Look at yourself in the mirror @Lgcw+1tqJUDvl, the visage of your soul is grotesque. Your selfishness and entitlement are as boundless as your lack of knowledge, humility, and intellect. I hope you don't have kids, and if you do I'm sure they'll eventually be estranged due to your callus ignorance.

What doesn't make sense are the "doctor's notes" that people got to work from home. Some of them were specifically for Covid type issues. Covid's gone and they're still working remote. Then there's people who have notes for various issues for being remote but yet they come in the office ONLY if they feel like it and generally go out and about in public with no issues. There's someone at Truist who works remote because they have ADHD per their "Doctor's note". Before Covid, they came into the office every day. Not fair to the rest who are honest and are forced to come into the office.

@Jgxp+1tqJUDvl you should have moved during the pandemic, yes

Makes no sense to me how some people on my team are fully remote just because they live far from an office. Doesn’t seem very fair. Now if I was to move would I get the same option? Really hoping Truist will change their mind on 4 days in office especially since we will have to pay for our own parking. At least Bank Of America doesn’t charge its employees to come to work.

Whatever you call it “hybrid” or “office centric” all the execs are trying to do is justify the high cost leases they were not able to re-negotiate. Most of the people making these decisions were not here during the merger and pandemic when we were all working remote and still got our jobs done while also navigating a merger. I get so frustrated going into the office to just sit on Teams meetings with the same people I would be on Teams meetings with at home. This place is toxic, we are just cattle to the executives and they are the ones deciding when (not if) it is time for us to go to the sl**ghter house. Being laid off with a package seems more and more enticing every day.

I hate it when people thing "oh man, a highly technical employee works remote therefore they can easily be replaced by Accenture!" Like... 6 years ago we had Accenture contractors who replaced FTEs and came in to the office to work...

The brain rot of people who think the only justification to have an FTE is so that they can meet in person is beyond me.

I'm 100% remote because of how far out I live (4 hour round trip due to traffic). I highley doubt they'll force me to be hybrid as the rest of my team is in another state. I wouldn't put it past them though - they love making bad decisions..

Why is Truist going to a stricter policy than prior Covid? Before covid we could work 3/2 and that was flexible based on our boss.

I joined some stupid generations call yesterday with Graziano and Starnes. They started off with some quote about essentially about how gen x 20 plus years ago valued being able to spend time doing things they enjoy outside of work. The company is trying to make sure people can’t do that. Nauseating. It is what is is but just stfu about caring.

It is just the latest corporate speak. It doesn’t change the fact most of you Teammates will be back in an office 4 days a week soon so you can collaborate on teams while listening to other Teammates do the same.

Office centric is the new term for 4 days in the office replacing hybrid which is 3 days in the office

Perhaps ‘office centric’ refers to roles who are intended to be out meeting/developing clients. Not really “remote” but also not literally in the office every day. Hadn’t heard that term before, but maybe.

I think initially there will be teammates in the same role with different work styles. The concern I have is how long they will allow that before they start telling the teammates that don’t align that they will either have to relocate so they can go into an office or they will lose their jobs.

They just changed verbiage to office centric since 4 days in office is clearly not hybrid.

I have two questions?

When will they announce the role work style and how are they gonna enforce it?

What is office centric? Assuming that is “hybrid” meaning 4 days a week in office? I just wish they could get off the need for 4 days a week.

As far as assigning the style to the role that kinda makes sense to me. I always wondered what HR issues you were gonna get into when people in the same role have different office styles. Personally I do not agree with that.

End of the day jobs as remote gonna get so many resumes.
