I know there have been posts about this in the past, but a large provider group asked today in a meeting about the Humana - United merger. I found an article from August 21, 2023 stating the merger is in talks. Normally I assume this is old news, but with a provider group asking about it…it makes me wonder.

@9zgt+1oh1f1VJ - the posted merger position is most likely for integrating entities Humana has acquired - like physician practices under CenterWell/Conviva - not any large scale acquisition like the entire company being acquired
Centene is hiring Humana leadership. Seems like some are jumping while they can.

Hi check the internal jobsite there is a posting for HR for a merger position.
UHG/CHANGE now Humana- CHANGE acquisition was questioned by DOJ on antitrust (monopoly), yet a judge allowed it to proceed. $$ buys. Could it happen to Humana again ? It depends how much political contributions for the decision maker.. if they are investing heavily in UHG - this will not be precluded a judge from making the ruling in favor of the next acquisition. Surprised? NOT.
During the last UHG shareholder meeting, one of the recommendations is to disclose political contributions - that got shot down. Anything is possible sadly.

I am surprised that no one here is mentioning the fact that a career market point agents with Humana were laid off on 8/24/23. No one even cares.
No way DOJ would allow it. Optum manages many company’s medical and pharmacy benefits. UHC is #1 and humana #2 in Medicare so unless the government is going to go to one company managing all lives, not going to happen!
Not a reality due to the potential of monopoly
This rumor is circulating on the Centerwell Pharmacy side. Our medical benefits are managed by Optum so it kinda looks that way. Curious as what others are hearing as well.
