Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How?

How can there be people who have been at Verizon for a minimum of five years and they still have no idea how to do their jobs? Why do I have to waste my time helping the same people on a daily basis with things they should be able to do in their sleep by now? How are these people still here???

@3rdll+1aFFxoYP... agreed. They also are the ones that have the hardest time after an update. That's the best part of WFH... not having to babysit those twits.

In my experience, it's the call takers... usually the ones that complain loudest about the vendors.

@9psa, perhaps your “mentally challenged pre teen nephew” (btw, sorry, some families genetics just suck from inbreeding) is using a tablet that is not predisposed to failure?

To those who had their kids/nephews and nieces learn to use a tablet, that’s great. Next time, have them learn a tablet that’s been set up by Verizon IT. Those IT clowns make things difficult on purpose. And for those guy complaining about helping people with more than 5 years, they’re keeping you in a job, just keep helping, as annoying as it may get.

Soooooo you're saying union members are slow, unable to adapt to change, and unable to multitask.
I'd have to agree. That fits MY experience 100%.

I'm not trying to stupid but your preteen nephew may not have much else on his mind while most people here have a whole lot else going on and are burdened by previous tools and training that may or may not be very helpful in the current situations. As we get older we have a trade-off between experience and ability to pick up new things on the fly. Experience helps you to potentially work smarter and more efficiently. But it can also be a burden for some making them sloooowwwww as they weigh every little thing against their experience. Some aren't any good at picking up new things and others are amazing. I don't think union or not has anything to do with it. This exists everywhere paper pushers can hide out.

@9psa+1aFFxoYP- with union workers, it is certainly either a scam or stupidity. Which one is anyone's guess.

It amazes me that my mentally challenged pre teen nephew taught himself how to use his tablet.
In the meantime, my direct reports (all I3EW) still have trouble getting their tablets charged between shifts.
I can't tell if they're that incompetent, or it's just another scam to get out of work.

Seriously, I worry about them fueling the trucks up.

When you teach people not to think ...they get very good at it..
When your mgr is there to do his bosses job -the workers aren’t supervised.
The bigger the company the easier it is to fly under the radar..

How do they have people with less than 5 years that think they know it all?
The reason for the people having troubles with their jobs is simple: lack of adequate training. I was a field technical in operations, and if you are lucky, they give you a 5 minute video of the changes they are going to make to the tablet app you need every day. No details, no one to ask, just here it is, figure it out on the fly, in a house with no cell service or internet to connect to.

Well if they are anything like me, they keep getting told to do completely different jobs every 6 months with no ownership, guidelines, training, or support.
