Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Don't quit ahead of a recession!

I keep telling this to my coworkers who are too happy to leave at a time that might not be the best. If nothing else, make them lay you off and pay you severance in the process. If you're new someplace else you're guaranteed to be the first on the chopping block if layoffs come. Here at least you have some seniority to use as a shield. It's too risky, in my opinion. That's my advice, take it or leave it.

I saw a post on one of the career sites that an IT organization will be hiring 30+ positions in a particular discipline. That's a lot! It makes me wonder if this is in anticipation of picking favorites and laying off current people who aren't on the favorites list.

@8jdy+1hdyxyrW, The new company is simply terrible, SunTrust ruined the brand and has embraced a toxic culture. This board is for information and venting!

You seem to totally be against the new company! So, please take your own advice and leave! Save yourself now!

As for the internal transfer: Go for it! Enjoy the new position and learn all you can!

What are everyone's thoughts about internal transfers? Especially if it's a better boss and higher pay band.

I love it - stay here and be miserable because you are worried your job may not be secure somewhere else?? You actually think your job is safe at Truist?? Wow.

Did you listen to the last earnings call? The continued promises of “cost saves” by Bill didn’t seem to hypnotize analysts this time - one started to question the sluggish performance. This executive team dislikes their employees when times are good, just wait until things get tough. No offense, but staying at Truist and using job security as a reason it’s one of the silliest things I have ever heard.

If you quit now you may end up with no place to go! For some of you this may the first time you have seen a downturn. I’ve seen and lived through a few. Companies will be tightening up new hiring, waiting to see what happens.

Why would you stay out at a place that may take years off your life?! Do you think they care if you quit? No. If you drop dead tomorrow you will be replaced before your ceremony is even held. “But there’s still a pension though..”. Yea that’s all well and great BUT refer to point number one….

Where's the risk in moving from one megabank to another? Culture can't be worse than Truist right now. Take the 20% pay bump that the market wants to give you while you can. Staying put is going to get eaten up by inflation.
