They’ve made all the decisions for phase 2 already. You think any of the sr directors or directors have gotten wind of it? I've got this feeling my sr director knows I'm on the chopping block and is starting to keep their distance

Only VP level knows.
Sr Director will be lucky to find out the morning of April 22 on the fate of their team.
Leadership needs to show they are "providing value" and it's hard to write a value statement unless your reportees are working on valuable work. They don't care if you are getting axed or not, at least not individually, they care about not having their org eroded away to the point they are forced to move or are let go themselves.
@6dew they are trying to shove stuff in before all he-l breaks loose. It really isn’t worth it though, they need to look around them.
I have the exact opposite; both Dir and S Dir giving me more and more important stuff that’s actionable immediately and continues well into FY2025. Almost like layoffs aren’t a thing. Or we’re just pretending they aren’t.
I’m experiencing the same feeling.
All decision makers signed an NDA about layoff knowledge, so hopefully they are just being weird and not anything else! I’ve been overthinking every single off brand characteristic about my LT this last couple weeks
There is knowledge of (at a minimum) numbers being cut. Not sure if this is the case for ALL functions, but there has been communication to leadership.
From someone who was affected phase 1, directors won’t know until it happens or after, and that goes for most sr directors as well. VPs and up are the only ones that know anything, and that is normally just hours or days before.
As a former director in DSM, I can confirm that 95% of directors had no idea what was happening with CDO or CDA until announcement day… and as much as they’d prefer you to think they had actual say in the layoffs, the majority of senior directors were also not privy to these decisions (but this does vary by department/BU) - if you’re in tech then your sr director is definitely in the dark
This board assumes Directors and Snr Directors know a lot of things that they actually don’t. And it’s not because they don’t want to know but it’s because there are usually 2, sometimes 3 or even 4 layers of VPs over them. This is the very same bloat that has us in this situation.
With the last phase, my leader felt the same way. I ended up having a good talk them and they shared their worries for both themselves and their team, but it all came to nothing as we were all safe from Phase 1. I suspect it's more general fear as others have mentioned.
It’s also possible your sr director is scared for themself and is withdrawing. Nobody that I know feels remotely safe in this phase. It’s probably about 99.9% not about you.
Agreed; if your spidey-sense feels the change, you're most likely on to something.
It’s possible your Sr Dir suspects THEY’RE on the chopping block and they’ve checked out.
I hope you’re wrong and you’ll be ok.
If you can feel it, you’re probably right
