Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Tech here to answer common questions.

  1. Yes, we only do 3 jobs a day, max.
  1. OT if there’s a 4th
  1. Half my day is sleeping, a quarter is doing work, the last quarter is eating.
  1. I used to be a rep, it really is the hardest job in the company. Don’t apply for it.
  1. A good amount of us are out on disability, sometimes I forget they even work here.
  1. My foreman is an ok guy.
  1. Garage from home was great. I miss getting 4 hours of OT per day just to drive to work.

Any other questions?

There’s way too many anti union techs in Verizon.

So, the simple-minded OP has learned how to erase their browsing history so as to allow repeated self-upvotes, feigning consensus.

So, rather than ignore the OP troll, 32 people, so far, have fed him or her the attention he or she so desperately needs, only encouraging it in the future.

@5yoy+1siGfUbr You can’t say the Union employees were “dead weight from the start” that’s a ridiculous statement when it literally was the Union employee that built the company from the start …There would be no Verizon today if not for the old phone company…. The Poles…the cable … the manholes… the central offices..the inside representatives with service to the customers businesses and residential…. All that work preformed by the Union employee….its those dollars they generated that funded Verizons wireless….so let’s be fair here….also I can guarantee you this it was not the Union employee that put together the 5G plan…. That debacle was all on the Verizon leadership..

@5pcj+1siGfUbr They were dead weight from the start. That motivated the company to pursue 5G instead of what everyone knew was needed.

I blame the company and the union for the mess we’re in.

What do you expect?….look into a Verizon vehicle today and all you’ll see is a White head with glasses now.

The majority of techs today are in their mid 50’s working a very physical job that includes carrying ladders and then down on their hand and knees…. It’s not easy at all especially after having done this for the past 30 years!

The company painted themselves into this corner by putting all their eggs into the completely wireless 5G basket and now they want senior citizens to bail them out of that failure…. They want worn out old techs to work like they were in their 20’s….well physics makes impossible so now what ?

2035 is the most likely year that we’ll no longer deal with this cr-p.

1999, 2000, and 2001 hires are the ones destroying the company. They’ll mostly be gone by 2035 and the company will be less a lot of dead weight.

You’ve been all Quietly fired
Which is an unintended consequence of absent leadership. Even well-intentioned managers can fail to show up for their employees. They may be too uncomfortable to have an honest discussion about an employee’s performance, or they may not have the resources to meet the expectations of an employee. Either way, quiet firing isn’t always intentional.

But, sometimes it is. Under certain circumstances, quiet firing can be a deliberate and calculated move to compel an employee to quit, thus avoiding the monetary, legal and even psychological hurdles involved with firing someone outright.
Its a passive aggressive way of scooting someone out the door.

@2mrd+1siGfUbr Techs were told to close out their last job once they got home. This way they got OT for driving.

Also, I live in PA because I like PA.

Actually during garage from home if you were 8-5 you were supposed to leave your house at 8 and return at 5. No OT for travel and no putting in for tolls you would have paid going to and from work in your personal car. It's the greedy SOBs that spoiled it for everyone else. It always happens like the extra $300 a week, guys coming in 1 day then taking off the rest of the week so then they had to change it to $60 per day worked. It's never enough. People always have to abuse and sc--w up a good thing for everyone.

Why do techs live 4 hours from there work location?

Is it because the union got pay raises below inflation for decades?

Techs can’t afford to live in city where they work

This goes against verizon carbon neutral going green new deal

During the pandemic techs were allowed to garage from home. They were getting paid as soon as they hopped in the van, in their driveway. So their commute was all overtime.

Get stuck in traffic, more OT.

Go get groceries, more OT.

Pick up your kids from the grandparents, more OT.

No one else got free OT.

It’s why they don’t need as many tech positions anymore. There is not enough work. And then old union members die on the vine.

You give me zero repeaters and you can keep your three jobs a day, max. I don't give a hoot in h-ell for a tech who does 5-6 jobs a day but 4 wind up being repeaters.

lol, sounds exactly like Windstream network techs!! I personally know two of those guys who hunt and fish most of the week!! It would be a stretch to say they did more than 6 hours actual work a week and somehow they both make OT!!

Why come to work if theres no ot. Go on disability your dody is beat up from hanging in poles

All blue collar places ot is necessary for employee happiness. Look at the subways, buses, sanitation, police, fire, cable companies

Everybody gets chance to make more ot than there base pay

Now all the employees have second jobs or side hustles. Nobody cares about this company
