BPX layoffs starting tomorrow. Why is the schedule different than BP? Any chance the Denver office is closing?

Yep that’s all true. Not to make excuses, but is it any different at other companies?

I came to BPX from another asset. BP is the sane worldwide, back stabbing takes hold going to re-org. None of the 5 virtuous values matter when it come to hand to hand combat and surviving at the company. I participated in six re-orgs. Every time similar themes are seen : (1) the young survive easier than the old. (2) Young attractive females survive at a rate twice what everyone else survives at. ( less attractive females survive only slightly better to not-at-all better than everyone else at all age levels (3) Sacred cows who are seen in a favorable light by upper mgt survive ; sacred cows not held in any special favor may or may not survive. (4) a—kissing all the way up the chain of command forms the primary basis of building the new organization from the old one; ie there is a pecking order that is apparent and similar in both the old and new BP organization. (5) BP routinely puts commercial interest in front of safety ( few will admit this and the company’s public image is dedication to safety but nothing is farther from the truth when the cost of safety pressures commercial profit - I saw this first hand many many many times over across several business units ). (6) BP places unqualified people into roles based on who they know, rather than competence in their discipline , ie somebody knows somebody’s brother’s cousin’s uncle, who lives next door to VP so-and-so, and because that person says the applicant is good, he or she gets the job. ( they put people in engineering roles without engineering degrees or in some cases without experience just because they knew someone who helped get them the job. (7) BP TAS, supposed to be fair and honest - more powerful people in the mgt eschelon make phone calls to get certain candidates placed into certain roles without having to compete as they normally would ( I saw this first hand ).

Maybe so but interesting to note that for this lay off period Exxon is doing it in phases with phase one being the new hires, interns and anyone under like 5 years I think. Those folks go first then following phases made up of longer term employees. Seems Exxon has a bit more appreciation for institutional knowledge than us. I actually think that’s better even if the newbies make less cash and that’s better for Bp finances, they are not ready yet to keep things safe in the field anyway.

@4ykd+16HsmLBS BP takes real care of its reputation on Linkedin.. then making profit is at a second level. If you've noticed all the majors never cut their new grad programs, if they do it'd be a red flag for its community engagement or whatever public affair stuff.. there are stakeholders with eyes on these simple but sensitive issues of not hiring new talent..

Recent grads work for less pay and do what they are told.

@c—ycookie

Yes there have been several soon to be graduates being given offers at bp mothership.

Is the same true for bpx? They only had like 7 interns

I wonder if anyone here is aware of the numerous new job offers being made to new grads in the past few days. I don't have nothing against hiring new talent -I was one of those back in 2013-.
It does not make sense to me hiring+training new people at the same time you want to layoff 25% of your existing workforce..

I haven’t noticed anything s-xist or racist in the people selected to leave through the EOI. I’ve seen men, women, white and black who are leaving. The only common factor is age - almost everyone is 40 and older. I doubt it’s related to age as much as the fact that there is an effort to let go of SLLs and GLs in the first round.

Oh sure. All over but nothing that could win against the mighty forces that would be brought to bear by Bp. The generous severance package shuts down all complaints. Want that package? Sign on the dotted line then fade to past. That’s how it works. It’s just business.

Anyone see s-xist or unfair practices in terms of who was let go?

You see management’s true colors when you are no longer beneficial to their life.

Oh my yes!! And how will they get THAT conference table out? It’s pretty d__n expensive to remove and replace an office building roof and ceiling!!!! But I think that building was only ever leased and not purchased. Which only makes THAT table more brazenly stupid. And where are the two employees who wanted the expensive building along with its ridiculous furniture?? Promoted. That’s where. Not to even mention all the money and safety risks taken to move folks to Denver.

bp has made tons of green$ by embellishing and lying to many and many more. This is a common way of ri$ing while cementing $ound ethical people of not in return trusting bp ever. If there is a way for bp to lie and avoid its obligation, do not discount bp’$ will. $oon one team will join every $ count. bp never change$.

The Westlake buildings were sold and leased back a few years ago. Same for Helios. Now those leases will be allowed to expire.

The Denver office should close. The only reason we have it is because of Lawler’s ego. And if your read the news today, bp i selling St James’ with a goal to lease back and be completely out in a few years. No way are they selling St. James And keeping Denver, Westlake or 30SW. People need to get used to working for home.
