Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Emergency Town Hall Meeting

Thank you, Michael, for calling that emergency town hall meeting to discuss racism. I can only assume that you and the other BCG/private equity white guys who make up the entire leadership team will be stepping down and letting POC take over the company. Thank you.

It's certainly refreshing to see how Cengage management truly feels about racial justice and equality (or lack thereof).

@4dtm+15ocWFUY, Supply chain is generally applied to turning raw materials into hardline products and then delivering products to customers – as opposed to the knowledge work we buy from vendors, work that's not significantly different from the work done by we Westerners, and work that the publishing industry continues to devalue by paying so little for it. But you do prove the first poster's point by patronizingly suggesting that these vendors are so happy to work for so much less pay than we would.

ID: @4xpy+15ocWFUY It’s the height of hypocrisy and presumptuous to assume our supply chain doesn’t appreciate the relationship where they get paid by Cengage for providing their goods and services. Only a liberal Democrat can find offense to this.

It's also sad that a company (and industry) that thinks it's so liberal and progressive is also so comfortable with the colonial relationship we have with suppliers in developing countries who do all the critical work to keep this house of cards from toppling.

What a joke. In an industry comprised 95% of liberals, I can count on one hand people of color who I worked with in my 20+ career. The height of hypocrisy.

After years with Cengage I finally had a person of color on my team. She was a great worker, and a wonderful person. Fired by Hansen in a recent mass layoff.

What emergency town hall? If you’re talking about the Friday meeting, that wasn’t an emergency town hall. Those calls are regularly scheduled. The topic changed with the times, which happens every week because of COVID, usually.
