Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Crown is still great

Despite all of the negativity, Crown is still a great place to work.

We have compassionate leaders who drive accountability in a nurturing way.

We have brand new offices that make people want to come to work.

The compensation is higher and more robust than any of our competitors.

I get that layoffs have a negative affect to morale but when looking at the bigger picture, I still believe Crown has more to offer than any of our competitors to those who are still employed. Our fiber and small cell strategy will pay off. It may be at the expense of our tower line of business but SC is going to be the way of the future and Crown needs to pull in that direction to survive. And we will.

At the expense of tower? What about the non tower people laid off from accounting, internal audit, supply chain, d&d, help desk, security, SOC, NOC, networking, platform, sales, this list can go on and on. There were hundreds outside of tower that should have kept their roles were laid off. The issue is poor middle management to directors with no guidance. I've never worked a role where I was so lost on what work to get done for there was no guidance on what we were actually doing. I would do work to be told to not do it for it would make my department own projects the director wanted nothing to do with.

There are directors that should have been laid off, but they go to the football games with the C-Suite so they are too good of friends to be let go.

This is the most disappointing and disorganized job I've had. Two managers in 4 months and each one was advising different work. Shoot, the last manager told me she didn't even know my role, yet expected the work.

I was underpaid and had nowhere I could go to for advice due to poor leadership that only cared about their work. I did try to make things better, but too many denials. I had a lot of managers, but no leaders. That seemed to be pretty normal throughout the whole org.

Startups are more organized than Crown. I still don't know how they got away with what they've gotten away with. A good audit from all sides (public, security, customer, IT, federal, etc.) will open up some truths. No wonder the stock is plummeting. They are poorly run.

Look, a keyboard warrior who hides behind a computer screen just to come here and spread their filth while degrading a co-worker. You’re so “brave”. SO brave that you put up with years of so called “BS” to depend on a severance package to rescue you? Must not have been too confident in your resume if you couldn’t leave on your own terms years ago. I hope you realize one day the hateful words you write says a lot about your character. You’re no better than the people you complain about. If you want to spew your bitterness, I’m pretty sure there’s another platform for that. There are hundreds of great people that have lost or will be losing their job, yet it’s people like you that never deserved to be here. I came on here to find out more about the entire process, and instead I was disappointed to see my co-workers bashing each other. It's okay to be unhappy and leave, but do so with integrity. If you’re a generation that lives off “likes” and “upvotes”, then take your nonsense to TikTok. Crown has always been good to me and I’m more than proud to list them on my resume if I end up needing to. Clearly you agree if you lasted at CC this long. God bless.

I took the money. Was tired of the BS

Since we’re all gone, remember when the (former) exec in the West was actively having an affair with a former adult film star/ up and coming CC employee?!? Everyone knew, and no one cared. She even drove his fancy cars to work! Bet she keeps her job…Haha

How delusional can you be? Once they labeled their employees as ICs or people leaders... they were dehumanizing the entire team. Distancing themselves from feeling for any individual. The company has and will continue to spiral downwards until they admit to the share holders that their fiber purchases were a mistake. As long as Helen Keller is at the helm. This company will start selling the tower assets to AMT and SBA. Bob Crown is probably laughing at this joke (from his helicopter in FL). But still thanks Jay. Collect you 7+Mil bonuses and ruin the lives of now 1000s of people. With all that, CC stock is still substantially lower than competitors.

A couple of things were obvious from the onset, The towers business model was a more passive investment than fiber. The other obvious aspect was that the towers workforce was not as skilled and more institutionalized than the fiber workforce.
Tower folks forgot that this is a public, for profit company and not a social club or a charity foundation. Tower failed to foster a valuable asset mindset .

I work on the fiber side so I’m not affected by what is happening. For now, I agree with the OP. We did interviews for openings we have on the fiber side and we’re promoting people as well. It’s all BAU on this side for now.

If Crown changes direction, which I doubt they will after such a large investment in fiber, I may feel different. But for now, it’s not so bad.

I do feel for those being laid off though.

"Brand new offices that make people want to come to work"
Please tell that to the hundreds of people displaced by the closed offices that will be forced to move and relocate their lives for no good reason, when those in closed offices prior to this are allowed to stay remote.

I'm not so sure...when 15 year non-Towers employees leave, it makes one wonder. Do they know something the Purple Kool-aiders don't?

Correction, it WAS good. Replace some District Directors and RVPs to start. Finish out the change with some EMT members and the good CC will be back.

This generative AI technology sure ticks all the boxes:

  1. Hundreds of layoffs = an ‘aww jeez,’ minor ‘oof’ to morale
  2. Defending a RIF in progress directly to the hundreds of traumatized lives being damaged in real time
  3. ‘nurturing’ mentioned during RIF in progress (huge bonus points)
  4. Almost devoid of human compassion, yet cohesive

Compensation and benefits are fine. At least for now. For those who remain, I hope they stay the same after this layoff.

I used to stay because of the generous benefits. However, the constant reorgs and chaos have left me at a point where I’d rather take the severance and run. I don’t trust this leadership. It’s not that I don’t trust their intentions, I just don’t trust their judgment. I want off this ride.

Side note - maybe you have brand new offices in Houston but some of the other offices are stuck in the olive green 90s where we don’t even have glass partitions between cubes and you have to be a director to have an office with a door.

Salaries are low, they haven't been completive since 2015-2017isb, RSUs have been worthless for the past three years, benefits and bonus rates are the only thing we do better than the competition.

by

Post ID: @fcr+1nX8jnaq

Compensation is on par if not better than competitors.

No other company offers RSUs to even the lowest level manager.

Very few of any company offers a 10% overall 401k match.

Our cost of benefits is relatively low compared to other telecom companies.

Our bonuses are a higher percentage than relative to comparable positions at other companies.

We have many problems. Especially with our current EMT but the compensation is not one of those problems.
