Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Can we talk about the choke hold India and Indians have on the firm?

Pretty much the title. I know every group has their bad apples but seeing how many employees of other ethnicities (not even talking about white people here) have been disproportionality replaced by those from South Asian countries is absurd. Am I alone in thinking this?

I think it's safe to say no one wants to transfer to India from NA/ EU unless they came from India/ are Indian.

You are not wrong. In my 20 years of being a technology professional, working in several industry sectors and companies, small and large. MS, particularly Wealth Management Tech, is a case study of Indian nepotism. Pick ANY MD that is Indian and count the number of Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, or Black men or women on their teams. I pretty much guarantee a one-hand response. For example (real example) 200 people under this MD - and there is exactly 1 ED (out of 12) and 2 VP (out of 40) who are not of Indo-Pac descent. How is it actually possible that out of a 200-person team, there are ZERO qualified candidates to hire who are not Indian?

@ns You then also need to have Rupee to a have a reserve currency status and India having a world money printer. Unfortunately, just being competent is not enough.

@ds
cost
they bow down to the people above them
they are not intelligent enough to challenge the people above them
they make good slaves for people that want to rule

then there is something even more sinister - the Kalergi Plan

@ds I agree this is mostly about cost of labor, but there are plenty of competent employees in India, they just get paid a lot less.

You're overthinking this - it's purely an interim cost play (not based on race or ethnicity), they can hire semi-skilled labor at 1/10th the cost. So even if they can only do 20% of your work competently, org wins from a bottom-line perspective. Most middle managers falsely tell upper management that the India based teams are doing a great job because they've been told to make it work or they are out the door. Next step is going to be similar approach to AI - only stop to the cycle and unrealistic targets and expectations is when quality and reputation start degrading to the point where clients voice their displeasure with their wallets.

Zero chance Ill be cooperating with my offshore counterparts going forward until things change - I'm going to give them back what they've given me since day 1. We should all dig our heels in and make the difficulties we face with them known and pursue change. They must be held to the same standard as the rest of the company. Same company, same culture throughout, they shouldn't get a pass in India while the rest of the world is held to a different standard.

Anything tech turns into a monoculture.
Once they are in, they just spread in all dpts, roles and functions.
I do not mind when a competent person gets a role regardless of their background, but it is statistically impossible that they are only able to find and hire candidates of the same descent.
And execs and boards are asleep at the wheel, they are well aware how the demographics look as HR is feeding them this info quarterly.
