I'm 20 weeks pregnant and was impcated due to reorg. I did not disclose my preganancy to my manager yet. My last date is Dec 31st and i will loose my insurance and maternity benefits. Anybody in similar situation? I securing an other internal position within the company a false hope?

Sorry, but I thought once you were pregnant, that they have to cover the entire pregnancy through to the end no matter what. Check with HR.

@3spb+1dzZimBQ $600 a month for family coverage (which OP needs)? Keep dreaming and multiply that x 3.

Sorry to hear you are losing your job. If you are losing insurance due to a reduction in workforce that qualifies as a change in life event. Meaning, you can pick up insurance outside of open enrollment. Don’t pick up COBRA, it’s too expensive. You can go to the marketplace and elect coverage. The cost will be less expensive than COBRA. Hope this helps.

Is this a "very nice company" situation, where all the lawyers went to the same school and know each other personally, come on. Stop trying to ruin the American dream for normal people. No one knows where the super rich are offshoring their tax dollars.

Just pay for COBRA for a few months til you get situated and you'll be good to go. I know the real question is how to still get your paid maternity leave when you've been laid off, but that's like gaming the system. I'm sure your severance will cover your time on maternity leave unless you've only been here a few years.

ACA open enrollment begins November 1st through December 15th. Buy now even though you'll be paying double for a couple of months then change your income status as soon as you leave so you qualify for a subsidy. In the extreme, I've known people who divorced on paper so the spouse could get ACA subsidies without having the other spouse's income impact subsidy qualifications.

1wek- get a lawyer and do what? Non union employees are “at will” employees. You can leave at anytime and the company can let you go at any time for any reason or for no reason at all barring anything illegal. OP stated that she did not tell her manager that she was pregnant so a lawyer couldn’t do anything for her. Look for an internal job, you have nothing to lose by trying. You can look externally at the same time.

Get a lawyer as soon as possible and stop asking anyone else for advice. Most people here are not people who can give advice on employee law or government law. HR and the company are not your friends. Stop telling them anything or trusting them.

My husband doesn't have an insurance yet. We all are on my insurance and my daughter's aba therapy is covered by my current insurance. It's a pain in the bu-t to change everything now and move to a complete new plan and get my daughter evaluated and start the whole process. I'm due in March and my severance benefits end by Mid-Feb.

Just incase, if i get any internal role, do i have to let the manager know that i'm pregnant at the time of hire? I will be 30 weeks by Dec 30th and i think it's useless to apply for any external jobs at that time. What a pain!

False hope. If you don't know anyone that can bring you in, useless. Start looking for another job elsewhere. Blessing is disguise.

Why don’t you go on leave? I’m sure you’re doctor will put you out on leave, especially with all the stress you’re going through. Then use medi cal. It’s not ideal but not too bad.

I know plenty of folks who have found other internal positions. Find one and then take your 14-16 weeks off when the baby comes.

Depending on what state you are in, you can collect unemployment. Also, some states have low cost universal health. In Massachusetts there is MassHealth:

COBRA while expensive could be a solution.

Twenty weeks is 5 months. Two more months to Dec 31. And benefits go through your package. I hope that'll be enough based on how long you've been here.

People do get internal offers, but it's rare. So try, but don't get your hopes up. At least you have two months. That gives you some time. It happened to me once (two months) and I lucked out. I hope you do as well

Good luck.
