Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Pharmacy union to stop the greed

We are around 37 pharmacists in the Midwest tired of getting the daily abuse, the daily calls from our puppet district leaders expected to function normally while the board of pharmacy watching every move with continuous and tremendous hours cut along the threats to be written up if we go over demand putting our patients safety in jeopardy.
We are being asked to use the cross trained people from the front who in turn also have their hours cut so bad with no one to train or hire with front store managers being threatened daily as replaceable. What a deplorable culture !

In other companies, leaders are called leaders because they go first ,because they take the risk before anybody else, because they will chose to sacrifice so their employees are safe and protected who in return will sacrifice for the company giving blood, sweat and tears. Not at CVS !

The attached article below was published on April 4, 2024 listing the compensation of only the top 5 executives amassing $ 63,459,882 millions in 2023 and if the math is done correctly with average $16/hour for a pharmacy tech, it amounts to almost 4 million hours back to the stores. They could have sacrificed half or third of it if they really cared about their employees well being as they pretend.

Unfortunately; CVS continues to mismanage the Caremark, the Aetna, the Minute clinics, the rest of the entities and the cuts always at retail level clearly with no passion or remorse but to get the elite sitting in an office or at home a better compensation in 2024.
Our ask is for anyone who has a social media platform to copy and paste this article and share everywhere so everyone knows the simple non fabricated facts on where the money is going with these recent hours cut.

While you are enjoying reading the attached article , we have reached out from our region and neighboring region to the Pharmacy Guild to inquire about unionization and follow Nevada, Rhode Island with the hope that other States will follow suit ! More to come.

ya'll being focused on the leadership...follow the money look at the top shareholders..those are the ones pulling the strings kiddies. want change? then employees would need to bind together and buy enough outstanding shares to hold a seat(s) on the board.
otherwise everything..everrryyyything is driven by return to shareholders.
not employees
not the envoirnment
not patients

shareholders.

that's how the game is played.

@3lzg+1t2gKlSW Not entirely. The KC walkouts last year did make the national news cycle. The problem was it wasn't big enough, (as in you needed ALOT more people to join the cause), and wasn't long enough. The only reason Prem went to KC was to squash the rebellion. He just had to do it in such a way that it didn't make corporate look bad. Unfortunately Prem was successful, and things quieted down and CVS went back to business as usual.

That said, employees outnumber executives by a wide margin. IF they all banded together, then yes you could change the culture at CVS. But too many people really need the job and so would only silently support you on the side as they go to work. 37 pharmacies is/was a start but not enough. Try like 3,700 pharmacies and then maybe you got something. One person CAN lite a fire but keeping it going is the hard part.

"I am completely for executives making a lot of money but it’s gone amok. There shouldn’t be any person that is a billionaire."

@2nun+1t2gKlSW - the OP seems to think 37 pharmacists are going to stop the greed. Imagine someone saying “we are 37 Apple workers and we are going to stop the greed.”
I was merely pointing out that CVS is small beans in the world of greed. Greed is pervasive around the world. It’s become acceptable to be greedy. Young poor people aspire to it. It is sad.

I am completely for executives making a lot of money but it’s gone amok. There shouldn’t be any person that is a billionaire.

@2wgk+1t2gKlSW A list of grossly overpaid executives is what that is, when the little guy at the bottom can't make ends meet.

Tell me you don’t understand how corporations work without telling me you don’t understand how corporations work.

Apple top 5 executives 180 mil
Meta (facebook) top 5 executives 125 mil
Walmart to 5 executives 115 mil
United health top 5 executives 85 mil
Walgreens top 5 executives 52 mi

Less than 1 hr really. You won’t be able to reduce those positions to $0 comp… and $16 per hr in wages doesn’t take into account payroll taxes or benefits.

To the below poster about my post. This post is NOT about layoffs. ‘The Layoff’ is not for the trickle down from other economic conditions that MAY be related to layoffs. There are many other places to complain, incite or advertise this stuff.

Side note: my boss told me on Friday there are no plans for layoffs. They did have to reduce the headcount but they achieved that by releasing many consultants.

Healthcare, medicine, & pharmacy is supposed to be about helping people get better/healthy, not corporate profits which is exactly what it has become. Worst decision we ever made was to turn healthcare into a for-profit entity. Doctors should be making your healthcare decisions not account managers. The corporate greed is real and disgusting. It's time for a change. Big Pharma has a saying that a patient cured is a patient lost? That's supposed to be the the point of healthcare. Not keep them just sick enough so they keep needing our meds. This is a prime example of greed at its finest, and CVS is one of the worst offenders. I agree with the original poster.

This NEEDS to spread company-wide! CVS is your typical greedy corporation, where senior executives only care about themselves at the top. That needs to change.

That’s ~1 hour per store, per day. $63M is not that much money for a company this size.

Below poster: this is relevant to the layoffs. Their corporate greed is causing all of this, including layoffs. Don’t be a jerk. I’m pretty sure you would not like your prescription sc--wed up due to low staff and overworked pharmacists.
