Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Management protects unproductive workers?

There are many employees who have been working 14 hour days for almost 2 years now while others have absolutely nothing to do. Let the unproductive ones go and fill in where needed to spread the workload so quality doesn’t go down. Lazy Managers don’t want to say that they employees with spare time because that would make them look bad.

This is someone else’s post, but I couldn’t have said it better. It bothers me a lot, but it’s not really the people who are unproductive that are to blame, but the management that covers their failures in this way.

Corporate America has behaved in an irresponsible mannor during this crisis. They should be reducing staff. The responsibility is to the shareholders and not the workers and executives. Get with it.

OP you hit the nail on the head. BUT those same workers were unproductive pre-COVID. They just jacked around in their offices.

The HR systems are dependent on the first level supervisor to do the right job in evaluating employees subject to political fine tuning at higher levels. They need to also include formal functional or next level up review of ratings. This is why it often is not a fair process. Many people who should be let go are just kept on and many people who are let go are just not lucky. Do you feel lucky. Well do you.
