If they just respected everyone's personal wishes around RTO/WFH, morale wouldn't be so abysmal. Really, who gives a f where someone is as long as work is being done? Everyone knows the collaboration and health and safety being a top priority messages are complete bs. It is so transparent. We have a hall monitor for a CEO instead of a visionary who can positively lead the company. Imagine being worth hundreds of millions of dollars and dedicating 100% of your efforts into ruining the lives of your employees instead of being a leader.

Fiserv HR is a total joke - they try to spin the image that everyone is subject to the same rules, but in reality everyone is being told different things. Some people come in twice a week, some are told "51%", some are told full-time, and some are "astronauts"... the entire HR department should be canned.

People didnt realize there was an easy alternative to the office until covid proved both the technology existed and the success of the model. Even five years ago i dont think we had the technology or infrastructure in place to support almost 100% of people working from home. So WFH is an example of technology and the environment (ie covid) disrupting the long established cultural and control practices the boomers have put in place. They dont like that.

Regarding the "stop saying its over" post, covid is endemic like seasonal flu. There is an animal reservoir so there will never be an end to variants (like the flu). I think at this point either you live the rest of your life in a hazmat suit underground, or just get over it and turn off the TV.
