Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Let's Talk Layoffs 2023 to 2024

So we all know what's about to go down in a week or so... the big questions are about to be answered "how many and from where". What gets me thinking is in the latest VGS all hands meeting where VPs said 3 important things:

  1. When our customers call us, they don't care if it's a VZ badged employee. Driscoll
  1. We reduced calls by 16% year over year (normally 3%), and would like to do it again in 2024 because of overspending in VCG. Clark
  1. Global location expansion (guy who mandated vaccines)

My question is why did we waste an alarming amount of money on unskill training for VCG (mainly internal) if all signs seem be showing internal off the books by end of 2024 give the 3 things sited from our leaders. I've seen the numbers and we are ramping thousands by end of year overseas for all work groups.

So is this to make up for previous layoffs in CS over the summer/ fall or is this the final push to eliminate internal by fall of 2024? Either way after seeing the numbers it is insane what has taken place over the last 6-8 years. Almost criminal what they are doing to eliminate cost but blow funds on blue jeans, go 90, Yahoo, AOL, and other failures just to cancel internal folks.

Overall the ceo has mismanaged the company so poorly that I don't even see myself surviving the rifs. No position is safe unless you are a VP or higher. Everything will be outsourced in the end, including those who outsourced.

It ki-ls me to see that Verizon (Wireless) is only unionized in NYC. You guys need to stand up for yourselves!

Asa long term employee with over 25 years at Verizon and its legacy companies I have seen a lot. What gets me is that when Lowell McAdams announcement of hiring Hans Vestburg was made, it took a 5 minute search to find that his ouster from Ericcson was because his attempts to turn the company around actually drove it to near bankruptcy. I have seen that his poor leadership is again tanking what was a quality company with promise. More and more jobs are being moved offshore and the only reason shareholders aren't raising a ruckus is because VZ is continuing to pay out generous dividends instead of paying off massive debt from failed ventures and overpriced spectrum. It is too bad that corporate America gets rid of the very employees that make them money instead of the poorly performing overpriced leadership. 19 million a year will cover a lot of American employees getting laid off.

That garbage training was a pet project created at the direction of frontline leaders who think it’s a huge success and want to do more. The developers have to work with the bullsh-t they’re given, and sadly frontline leadership think they know what agents need based on vibes as far as I can tell. Why do we have frontline leaders who want to spend outrageous amounts on a training that isn’t even skills based when every other directive is to save money/make money?

Why does someone need to go into debt for a college degree to work in a call center or sell phones. They should take loans for a sociology credit to answer phones? The answer is Verizon doesn't pay what they used to compared to other options and workers are tough to come by.

Started in 2010. College degree preferred for B2B and Account Management type roles. 2 years of college or AAA for retail and Care is what I was told. It was shirt and tie environment. Glad we got rid of the ties but now it seems like either the quality of humans available have gone down or standards have gone down. Or both. We can't understand our Care and IT teams. At least our IT teams are extremely smart if we can cipher. Our instore rep is literally what you see on social media. No one understands what they are saying and they are sloppy and high maintenance.

When I started here 30 years ago you had too have a college degree to be a customer service rep. Now you barely have to speak English.

@2elt+1p6JX0vg Muhhhhhhh DEI. The money spent on garbage products makes money spent on DEI look like chump change. You seem like the typical ta-d that misses the big picture while looking at small mistakes. Has DEI led to some incompetence? Absolutely, but the top level decisions are still decisions made by the “superior” non DEI white men and those decision show the lack of business acumen. Blaming it solely on DEI is some real newsmax level of thinking.

I get that we have to SELL,SELL,SELL Guess what out of 100 offers I have made for VZ Protect I got 1 taker. The new plans people do not want. But yet we have value at 6.00 on our metric. WE Should be focusing on doing our job as tech reps not as pushy sales people. This company has become a third world country sh----r

@kal+1p6JX0vg I whole heartedly do not believe PSO had or will have this training. I can hardly call it a training.

I agree the training was garbage and had no real learning. When you set out to learn you should walk away with a new skill or set of skills. The only thing gained was internal learned how to commute to work and get dressed in the morning. PSO probably was confused about what this was even trying to convey. I take billing calls but I now need to pitch a food truck idea. Vz is truly heading towards a start up mentality with L&D trainings. Who signed off of this garbage, they need to be canned along with the developers who thought this was Evolution hahaha. What a joke this company is turning into day by day.

Having attended the upskill event I can tell you that it was nothing but garbage. The only thing I “learned” was how clueless that learning and development team is and that my director is basically a used car salesman.

The entire thing should have been an OLT. Yet they chose to waste money on flying people out, their hotels, compensating people for gas, the printed materials and providing food.

The team that came up with that training aren’t qualified to run the food truck that they used as a business development exercise.

Lol the person that said that has literally never talked to a customer.

Also yes the ones doing the outsourcing will also be let go. Literally saw it happen to people that were “subject matter experts” that trained SPO reps. I could barely hold my self from laughing in their faces.
