Curious to know if they are still renewing the H1B in 2026 ? Or they have stopped doing the renewals too?
I know they have stopped sponsoring work visas for new roles.

Yes H1b wage level is increasing 30-50 percent by end of this year. So obviously they have to eliminate h1 whose salary level is low for the wage level. For sure company will not increase salary to match new wage level by more than 20%
@26g the moment we say “contract”, then by definition, that is not a highly skilled job by USCIS to warrant an H1B. This loophole needs to be closed.
Yeah heard ppl move because of USAA not renewing back to contract at USAA

Not sure if anyone got renewed in bank tech. But what I heard is Bank is needing high level approvals and they are not doing it.
@1kh Do You mean no executive approval required ? is it automatic extended like earlier ?I can not beleieve as it is mandatory now..For you they may have taken care without your knowledge.
Stupid thread. My h1 was recently extended without any drama. Unnecessary panic. Even if they fire all h1 employees nothing going to improve. 300*200k is only 60M.
@kn first part agree. No one safe here unless you are real Gem of that area. All BAU stuff ppl just wait for your turn. Enjoy till that time. Going where is their choice.
They should clearly notify on renewal so that impacted can plan accordingly ..staying on uncertainities is difficult..
@mr More of an HR question - a company (any company) can say it wants you to keep working since you do a good job, but it doesn’t want to be involved in an immigration process.
So technically, they are not laying you off, are they?

Lack of transparency is part of this company, you will never know when you will be fired, no one is safe working there, so this move is not a surprise. Better go back to home country and live a life without immigration anxiety
@ka Big Consulting companies stopped hiriing H1B, even those companies restrcted renewal

Can USAA make arrangements with suppliers like HCL, IBM, etc. to transfer the H1b sponsorships? Many of the onshore 3Ps are on H1b.
In addition to it , In the current situation ..management and leaders scare to ask for exception approval .So chance is low for renew ..what ever the performance or dependecies is .. does not matter

Moreover, there are plenty of US citizens looking for jobs. A company will hire a USC rather than deal with uncertain immigration policies.
@jd :). Not sure how long you have worked in corporate America. They can do what ever they want, when ever they & with whomever they want. (This is true for all companie). Now appreciate the self awareness of being subjected to modern day slavary. :)

@e4 They’re not conducting any reviews. From what I’m hearing, they’re just not telling whether the visas will be renewed until the last minute, and it seems like they’re not renewing. Haven’t heard of anyone’s visa being renewed lately.

@bg do you know if there was any performance evaluation done for that person? Or irrespective of the performance the approval did not come through
@bz Most H1bs are in tech role around 300-400 employees. It is roughly 10% of the total tech employees like dev ba data engineer etc
Less than 1% of the employees at USAA are H1B visa holders.
@b9 I know a person in bank area left company as he did not get approval till last week of his petition expiry.
@a8 that's a scary speculation. Do you know anyone in person for whom renewal was stopped?

Mostly they stopped renewal , 2 or 3 level of exective execption approval (HR head , AVP and above) , business case is required to initiate extension.
