Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Just got fired for asking to discuss some things I didn't agree on in year end review

I wanted to have a discussion about some stuff that I had physical evidence of (lots of chats, emails) to back up why I disagreed on some areas. After sending out an email explaining my side and indicating I wanted to have an open discussion, I was immediately reported to HR and fired. Like, I know, jokes on me I realize now in a company like Fiserv employee rights don't exist here and you will get in huge trouble for going against something, but like... is this normal? I have never heard of someone being fired over disagreeing with a review and wanting to talk about it with someone. Hopefully this serves as a warning to anyone unhappy with how they reviewed/if they felt they were reviewed unfairly.

I did not get an exit interview and that was fine by me... they would not change anything anyway.

Sounds like Retribution coming from management/HR, which is a no-no in the Code of Conduct policy, and seems like you have a case if you wanted to pursue it.

@2tfa+1llk3YVF (OP) I honestly think there were some sketchy things going on from the start, I was in a previous team where I was given no work, cast off to the side and subsequently blamed for that, so I contacted HR to switch teams. The same person that cast me off was allowed to do my review along with my current team, and of course that person gave me horrible ratings in every area they could. So I felt like there was definite bias coming from them after I went to HR to be switched. I definitely feel like the company had been itching to lay me off ever since that, and the email I sent gave them that push to fire me with cause.

I think its done at their discretion for resignations, not for firings

Fiserv does not do exit interviews.

If you can find anything that you complained about that was illegal, an employment lawyer is your best bet. The least you should do is have a consultation.

The place is a tu-d.

I don’t arrive as a contact to hire that’s a crock of a position. When I have hired on with fiserv it’s as employee, not contractor.

When I have left I had it on my terms with me resigning versus a RIF so the ball was in my court and I wasn’t stuck with some agreement with them.

Find another spot hopefully remote and forget the place. It isn’t worth remembering.

@1ytz+1llk3YVF I was part of the analyst program, which lasts for two years, and after those two years they expect you to apply for jobs higher up in the company.

Probably doxxing myself to any hr’s on here at this point, but on my review the areas I was marked down on had to do with collaboration, leadership, communication and that jazz. I disagreed with those marks because I felt like I had the physical evidence I was being effective in those areas, so I genuinely wanted to discuss it more. When I was fired, I was told my style of communication, my preference for interacting which is via chats and emails, wasn’t a fit for the role I was in. Even though my job was behind the scenes working in tech. So I was fired because of the email primarily, and then they had to back it up with that “not a good fit” excuse

You had a contract as a Full time employee? What level were you at?

@1mwo+1llk3YVF OP here, perhaps but my email was definitely the driving point. If I had sent nothing and just accepted and moved on, I believe I would still be here as my contract ends soon anyway, so what’s the point of firing someone when they only have a couple months left. Once I sent the email stating I didn’t agree and wanted to discuss more, that’s what triggered everything and I was reprimanded in the form of being fired.
I’m glad I no longer have to be at a company that doesn’t treat its employees well, and one I fundamentally disagree with. But no employee should ever feel like they will get fired for simply disagreeing and wanting to have a conversation regarding their own performance and future

TLDR HR is not your friend your are just resource that they are using
If your suggestion doesn't increase profits or could not result in lawsuit against them they don't care about it and on top of that you gave them summary of stuff why should fire you and mark you as non-rehireable.

They were preparing to remove you, you just gave them the opportunity to avoid severance.
