Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Will there actually be retaliation for speaking out against RTO?

I've seen a few posts talking about how we should only be speaking against RTO and the EC's decision anonymously. Can they actually fire us for saying that we don't support this decision?

I can understand grounds for firing if you refuse to comply with the RTO by not showing up in the office, but surely we can't be penalized for exercising our right to free speech?

My manager told our team that he isn’t against us asking questions but that he will be honest when other (hiring managers) ask and tell them that we were negative. Everyone has shut up since then.

@2twl+1nkfbaoN Ah, yes. When TDA AMAs allowed anonymous questions so you really could ask them anything with no fear of retribution. Here you have to send an email or worse a teams message for all to see. They are terrified of what will be asked.

They will do anything they can to find who is posting. If they do find you they will get rid of you. Someone posted recently that this is the reason why the anonymous questions that we use to have at green during meetings with executives is gone. Schwab hates transparency.

Yes they can, indirectly. Free speech has a cost to it. The question to ask yourself is, are you willing to pay the price? You can voice your opinion about RTO but remember, when they want you back in their corporate four walls under their watch, they will use whatever it takes to get you to RTO or make you go your merry way elsewhere.

Schwab can and does scan every single email, Teams Message, web sites visited, and posts made to the internet by employees. Be careful what you're doing in the office or from home with a VPN connection. If you're visiting this web site, Reddit, or something else from a company computer you need to stop ASAP and only use your personal computer or phone.

At-will employment, dawg. They can fire you simply because they don't like you, just so long as you're not from one of the "protected classes." If you're going to attempt to speak out, you must be very specific in what you say (or super anonymous). #NotALawyer, but think like a lawyer. If what you say will somehow deter customers from coming to CS or have any detrimental effect on the business, then you might have some sort of liability. Just remember they're a multi-billion dollar organization that has their reputation to lose.
