Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Another EVP with an added surprise

What’s up with this?

Truist Financial Corporation (NYSE: TFC) today announced that Scott Stanzel will join the company as executive vice president and chief communications officer, effective Oct. 1, 2022. Stanzel will report to Chief Legal Officer and Head of Public Affairs Ellen Fitzsimmons and will lead the bank's corporate communications function, overseeing internal and external communications from the bank's Charlotte, North Carolina, headquarters.
Additionally, we are deeply grateful to Brian Davis for his service as head of communications and pleased he will be taking on a new role at Truist, which will be announced soon."

So it seems Brian has received a sort of demotion. He now reports to the Chief Communications Officer as Director of Business Communication. That must sting.

Any insight on what Brian's new position will be?

The only person that doesn’t consider Kelly King an absolute buffoon and a shameless fraud is Kelly King.

@6ome+1inbIsDy - Sadly, Kelly King is sleeping just fine. I noticed recently that he is now distributing his “happiness” lessons on LinkedIn. And if you think that is the height of insanity - I read an interview where Kelly said he returned to Winston-Salem because his “work was not done”. What?!?!? Doesn’t he realize how much damage he has done to the Winston-Salem community?!?!

At some point you realize all the evidence points to one thing - Kelly King is a clinical psychopath hiding behind religion. The merger was never about anything but Kelly King, and he didn’t (and still doesn’t) give a second thought to who he hurt to get it done. He happily double-crossed a lot of people who had been loyal to him for decades.

Btw, my favorite part of Kelly’s LinkedIn “values lessons” are obviously not his plagiarized ramblings - but the comments from the cadre of brown-nosers thanking him. That resets the very definition of spineless corporate lemming.

The BBT board was apparently bought off, no other explanation for their rubber stamping this fleecing. He-l KK even got John Allison to buy into this farce. Henson was KK’s second in command so no way he was going to stick around. Can’t believe that the analysts and institutional stockholders aren’t applying more pressure on BillnBeau to improve performance of the stock. To this point there has been nothing that has made this merger worthwhile.

Brian is a stand up guy. I have known him since day one. I hope this works out for him, but I doubt it will. He may do better with a book deal. Remember, they told some other hBBT folks they would find/create a job for them. Remember Ray Barnes and Chris Henson to name just two. There were others. I hope Kelly can sleep at night, on his bed of cash. In truth, he sold a really good organization, who's employees would have bled burgundy (not purple) for them, down the river. But let us not forget, the board had to approve the deal. They have career blood on their hands as well.

@2oul+1inbIsDy - I agree, SunTruist is ABSOLUTELY NOT going to create a job for a hBBT employee - unless something else is at play.

You have to assume that the last thing SunTruist wants is a hBBT employee with significant media contacts having the freedom to tell what really happened behind the scenes. A minimal amount of outside scrutiny would make one thing abundantly clear. The merger-of-equals label was a total farce created by Kelly King to hide the true purpose of the deal - giving himself a massive retirement payday in return for transferring control of BB&T to SunTrust.

Oddly enough Davis is hBBT. He’s been around for 20 years plus in various communication roles after reporting at a local triad tv station a couple of years. I get SunTruist replacing him with someone of their choosing but creating a job for him is odd. I suspect he knows where the bodies are buried.

SunTrust 101 - despite a “desperate need” for cost saves and rampant lay-offs, create a new position when your buddy fails in their role. The cronyism boggles the mind. As long as you are a member of the “Atlanta club”, competence is irrelevant - there are always “little people’s” jobs that can fund the club’s faux roles.

Some of the most egregious stories of cronyism I’ve heard come from the Wealth group. From a totally botched brokerage conversion, to rampant employee and client dissatisfaction, the failures of Wealth leadership have been both public and evident. Everyone associated with Wealth recognizes the source of the problem. You guessed it - the leader of Wealth is also in Bill’s “Atlanta club”.

Oh, ok, thanks for clarifying. If they need any help coming up with a job for him, I have a few suggestions that would allow him to continue to use his special skillset. I doubt the pay would be anywhere near what he'd like, however.

I believe the poster is referring to Brian Davis having a new job created for him that has not been announced as the surprise.
