Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

He leaves companies worse than he found them

Charlie talks a good game, but that’s where it stops. He tends to move on before he is discovered to be not much more than a CEO who blames the help, attacks expenses, and otherwise offers no interesting ideas. Basically, he’s a corporate task master. I feel bad for all employees. Both they and investors deserve better.

I don’t believe that Charlie will look back and question if it was all worth it. Just don’t think that he’s capable of any such self reflection. But we all have souls and no doubt that all of us will cringe at things which we will regret later, so maybe there is hope.

I have studied the man and my belief is that he will try to justify things that ought to be regretted. I sincerely hope that I am wrong on this.

If we could get access to our own apps to troubleshoot, maybe we could do better. The amount of time wasted on eaco calls waiting for somebody somewhere in the world to figure what's needed to resolve an issue is unbelievable.

It's a broken system that you dislike as much as we do.

Unlike most people here, I really don't blame CS a bit for the down sizing. The real blame lies with previous leadership that easily could have gradually / less painfully moved towards greater efficiency, but chose not to, and the board that went out and hired a guy for $30M/year to fire 80,000 people. CS is just doing what he was hired to do, it's really that simple. Anyone else in that job would do the same...anyone who wouldn't didn't accept it when the board were searching for the new CEO. Therefore, focusing all the hate on the CEO seems silly. If it was someone else, they'd be doing the same or the board wouldn't have hired them. Either way the common denominator is the board.

@1imr. You got that right. Plug and play coding with no sense of the business reason WHY it is being done. But that’s what you get when you go all in with offshore. These agile JIRAs are pathetic in their lack of information but hey, we don’t need no stinking BAs!

The problem in Tech is we have way too many app teams around that don't know f--k all about the applications they support. Then when something inevitably breaks it turns into a fire drill with nearly every support team brought into EACO to trace down all the possible components to their applications to help them troubleshoot their own issues.

Charlie is doing the right thing. Dead weight needs to go.

There’s a reason nobody would take the job for so long. Most people at the CEO level are interested in growing a company and basking in their success. Not dismantling a top heavy dinosaur with a well deserved bad reputation. They had to find someone with different values. Someone who cared about nothing but feeding off the carcass of a dead whale.

They found him, and he’s doing what he was hired to do.

“To stay at a place knowing your management was bad… speaks about you as an employee”

Hey genius! Does that mean you’re such a gigantic loser that you are on the Layoff board for a company you don’t even work for?

He will rot in he-l... what a miserable existence he must lead. In the end, he will look back and question if it was all worth it and if he has a soul will regret how he treated people to get where he is. He's a pathetic excuse for a human and definitely not a leader.

Who got fired?

Agreed. Actually, I don’t even think he talks a good game. He was hired out of desperation on our Board’s part. And in their usual ineffectual pattern, they paid up for him. Our Board is comprised of a bunch of lame ducks, looking to cash in on their final years and not rock the boat. We need some fresh new blood with fresh new skills and perspectives. We just keep bringing in more of the same.

(I’m a boomer, so not age-discriminating. I think the most value is found in the combination of seasoned, successful and experienced older people + younger, more agile and modern people who have grown up around technology. )

I would love to have that golden parachute 🪂…. What does that say about all the people that worked underneath him? To stay at a place knowing your management was bad… speaks about you as an employee…. Maybe that’s why you got fired

I agree. He was hired to do just what he's doing, though and he's loaded.
