You are either pro- employee, pro-team, pro-customer, and pro-healthy corporate culture. Or you are Pro-Charlie. You can not be both.
I am pro-employee and pro- the people on my team and the teams I work with every day. I see how hard they work and how much of themselves they put in to their work. I am thankful for the experienced employees who have historical and system knowledge, and I am thankful for the new employees who bring something fresh and exciting to the table. And I am always for doing what is right for the customer.
Charlie is anti- employee and anti-team. I would go so far to say he is anti- Wells Fargo.
Most here would agree he is short-term and therefore has no interest in the long-term impact of his choices. There is a lot of evidence which suggests a short-term mindset deteriorates a firm’s competitiveness, increases systemic risk, neglects human capital, and reduces the long-term potential and profitability of the entire company.
Do I support my team, whom I I trust and with whom I have worked for years through both good and bad times? The team who will be here long after Charlie is gone? Or do I support Charlie, who is traveling through, looking to scrape as much off the top for himself as he can before he moves on to the next gig?
I will always choose to support and protect and defend myself and the team. And support consistently doing what’s right. I don’t put all my faith in whoever the latest CEO is, as we’ve had four in the past 5 years. If you choose to put all your support behind Charlie, than I hope you are a short-timer too.
