Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

RTO hurts:

Minorities - working from home allows an escape from microagressions.

Parents, especially women - with the childcare situation being what is, working from home allows flexibility for parents. RTO removes that flexibility and sees a decline in women in the workforce as they must leave to take care of their children.
Caregivers - what can be said for parents can be said of caregivers for elderly family or other adult family members

Those with neurodivergence - those with neurodivergence can find working from home easier because of the ability to set boundaries and reduce stimulus.

Working class - Let's be honest unless you're in the 1%, you save money by working at home.

If your job can be done at home and you're getting your work done, then let the employee choose.

AN excellent point by @Lbkw+1pg4gbAp.

We should all wear “I just can’t “ t-shirts on January 8th.

Be grateful to have a job.
Some were already let go and after the holidays, a bunch of us are going to be laid off.

I remember being mistaken for custodial staff in the office kitchen. By someone who worked on the same floor and I'd seen numerous times walking in the halls.

This is the most ignorant take I've seen yet. That means you're likely a troll.

@2fcq+1q8F1vlp DEI AKA DIE is a moral failure plain and simple.

Here we are at the end of 2023 talking about hair, what people wear, who left who off an email, and whatever else the offended crowd deems the offense de jour. I'm offended that people are offended!

Meanwhile, back in the real world, we have a civil war in Myanmar, the invasion and ongoing war in Ukraine, the Israel/Gaza war, civil war in Ethiopia, civil war in Yemen. We have 50,000 people dying annually in the US alone from the Fentanyl crisis and globally, ~9 Million people die annually from starvation. Not to mention our downtown Portland that is in tatters. Just to name a few tragedies in the world.

But back at WHQ, a bunch of privileged people are all up in arms about being asked to work in person at a multi-billion dollar playground. Talk about being out of touch and completely lacking self awareness. Read. The. Room!

@2eno+1q8F1vlp As someone who knows lots of adults with autism and/or ADHD (and lots of parents with adhd kids), finding a role with less distractions IS NOT the solution. And if you think that is the solution you are severely undereducated on the subject and shouldn’t even be commenting on it. Being on the spectrum can be a god damn super power. Shame on you for trying to tell people not work in roles they’re qualified for but might need a slight accommodation.

We make ADA accommodations for people with physical disabilities (WHICH I AM ALL FOR!!), but trying to say we shouldn’t make accommodations for individuals who have mental disabilities is BS.

ALL OF YOU STOP! MM, if you're behind directing your a-s kissers to viciously attack this post, you should be ashamed of your white self. Nothing in the original post was directed at anyone nor was it aggressive. There is no need for this backlash. Click on the original link that goes back to Oct when 4 to 1 was first announced. That was a shock to many. Now, as for the post, I agree. I have personally witnessed micro-aggressions quite often in SebCoe (hmm where MM resides). To include exclusionary practices regarding emails, invites, desk space and even ignoring someone even exists. EXCLUSION vs inclusion. Comments about hair or what you wear, you name it. It never stopped. Crushing, sick and disheartening. Who are we? So, back to the vicious attackers, who are you? Are you being told to post? Wouldn't put it past Nike. And, if you're in Legal, really? I document everything to include date, time and names and I give that advice to everyone that has brought similar stories to me. These vicious responses are bullsh-t. Don't you remember the Instragram page that was removed by Nike around this topic? Where's DEI on this thread? Eerily silent. HR/ER and Legal, do you really think this is good for your reputation? You're treading on thin legal water. As for the rest of the points, they're also not wrong. Most just want flexibility. That's it.

Most outrageous post of the year. Stop with the woke DEI alarmism. Intersectionality and DEI is racism dressed up. But it’s racism and bigotry at its core. People are starting to see this. As a progressive person, it’s very clear to me how divisive and racist it is to divide people into the oppressors and the oppressed and then create “intersectionality” to bring all the aggrieved “underrepresented groups” together to talk about “micro aggressions” and whatever else the outrage of the day is. Give. Me. A. Break. Just. Stop!

Come to work and do your job! You can’t WFH and have non school aged kids at home and do your job with the same quality you would if you were in the office. Just stop lying.

For caregivers, hire Visiting Angels. That’s what you would have done pre-Covid. Nothing is stopping you.

If you’re on the autism spectrum or have ADHD, find a role with less stimuli in the office. There lots of options out there and occupational therapy that can help.

Show up and do your job. If you don’t want to do it, leave. I heard employees were trying to “organize and protest 4:1”. Laughable. Life is tough, put your big person pants on.

Having a 3 year old, if someone told me that they don’t pay for child care and still “work from home”, I would 100% say that person is a liar. The moment my son is sick and at home from daycare, I mind as well take the day off.

I haven’t met a single parent that can pull it off. Be an adult and pay for childcare. You knew coming into having a kid there are high costs.

Nike spends multiple millions of dollars flying employees to and from US, Europe, China, or India every year so people can meet in person. Not to include the hanger of Nike planes that fly all the time as well. Just because your work is not important enough to warrant the cost...does not mean you are doing a great job collarborating over time zones and email.

Most roles collaborate cross-ocean, yet Nike has never felt the need to send me to Europe, China, or India to maximize my communication efficiency… or whatever BS they’re pushing RTO under now. -- @dfb+1q8F1vlp

Really well said and totally highlights the hypocrisy.

As a minority reason #1 seems to be grasping at straws which kinda calls into question the validity of the rest. This seems to be just more complaining.

As a minority I loved coming into the office, so please don’t whitexplain this to me and put all of us minorities into the same bucket.

The world (or specifically Nike) doesn't owe you a living. Unless you were promised permanent WFH when you were hired, stop complaining. If you don't like it, move on. Your employer wants you back in the office. Welcome to the real world.

As a Latino, majority of my fellow Latinos on campus worked in the kitchens or cleaning staff. They don’t get to WFH. They’re contracts get cut and they have to scramble for something else that puts food on the table.
There are benefits to WFH but don’t act like it’s beneficial to the greater minority or working class communities.

@jgq+1q8F1vlp A thousand times yes. You might be “getting your work done” but you’re not performing a full time job if you’re also caring for your kids or elderly during work hours. And if you’re trying to do both, I can guarantee you’re doing a bad job at both.

If you are WFH, you still need childcare. You cannot do both - you are lying to yourself if you think you can. It's not all that unreasonable for your employer to ask you to actually come into work

@dfb+1q8F1vlp Hit it on the nose. It was about reducing workforce with less risk. If they really believed in the in person collaboration all regions would be RTO.

RTO was always a soft layoff. It was never about collaboration.
