Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Copying or Moving files without being tracked.

So I heard from a very reliable source from cyber security that if we want to transfer or move files we must use AirDrop. CIS/tech doesn’t have a way to track or monitor this so this is the only way to get our files that we own or want to our personal systems. Just Airdrop to your personal iPhone or MacBook. I’ve been doing it and so far it’s been working.

Quick way to end up with your name in the paper, your career ruined because nobody will hire your untrustworthy a-s, and might lead to criminal charges.

Don't be this guy

It's a Google search away to see how F'ed you could be.

Nike is so neurotic about opsec you’d have to be a little naive to give them anything personal. There’s no benefit, with a guaranteed headache at the end of your employment.

Never install their keylogger on your phone too. Even if it means you can’t use slack. I’ve heard of too many people losing everything because Nike did a remote wipe.

@2bpm+1rWjZtwj It’s actually not. Read the policy, no files, even personal ones are to be removed.

I had to bring in my personal laptop for them to scrub , be put on a legal hold which delayed my severance, and then request the files I need to iT which they sent me in box.

Best not to go against the policy

Personal stuff like pictures and resume is fine. Company confidential is not.

So far it’s working until they lay you off and scrub your laptop. Good luck getting severance after getting caught stealing company property.

@1yxg+1rWjZtwj - I think you misunderstood my question. That’s ok. Reading doesn’t equal comprehension.

Copying or moving files while the laptop is running is definitely being recorded and monitored. Having said that, if you have physical access to your laptop, you have access to its content as well. You just have to copy it without booting the computer and all the monitoring software.

"why is Nike so worried about leaks?"

Sounds like someone skipped their annual security awareness training. Tsk tsk.

“why is Nike so worried about leaks?”

Because all those fantastic stories of historian lore… the truth is, many of those early founders would walk the halls, steal designs, innovation, to the point of patenting it first and try to sell it back to Nike. Some of the old timers are rotten miserable people.

You don’t get to hear those stories from the archives but they’re true.

Nike wants to control how information is released on new product pushes to preserve their heat marketing. To a lesser extent, we are also very protective of our bot mitigation tech, but it's mainly about building buzz for product. We had a big data leak related to this about a year ago. Other than that, a lot of it is just best practice for a fortune company

If I recall correctly the self-tying shoe tech was stolen and a competitor took a cr-ppy version to market a few months ahead of us.

Stealing the first-to-market perception and poisoning the public’s perception of it being a premium feature since it was done so poorly.

Genuine question.. why is Nike so worried about leaks? Do we have record of a leak that actually hurt our profits? Or do “innovations” keep flopping and we just need someone else to blame it on?

No. If you have stuff you really need, use your personal phone to record video and then just make a movie of your computer screen opening and closing all documents you want. No way for anyone to track you.

Don’t use a company laptop to copy company information. Even if you think it’s safe, don’t.

I adore the naivete of some of the posters here. To think that unblocked = unmonitored. You're gambling that based on.....what information exactly? Don't be stupid. Don't ruin your career and potentially your criminal record over taking the wrong thing.

Don’t be d-mb.

They have key loggers, network sniffers, and literally every other tool available on your tech. We spend more on internal tracking than anyone else in the industry and more than most other industries.

To say nothing about how much $$$ is tied up in lawyers’ retainers.

Nothing on your laptop is worth the considerable risk.

Isn't this part of the reason why the big companies don't even allow Mac?

I've worked at a few different Fortune 100 companies that won't even let them through the door.

So I heard from a really reliable source from literally anyone that this thread is completely public and for sure monitored, so go ahead and do what you want but anything done on a company computer can be tracked even if it’s not specific to what file and only an action taken.

I sent emails before I got laid off and they tracked it. But I only had to e-sign a letter stating I had to delete them. That was it. No HR or Legal action.

Thanks for showing me how wrong I was.

Just be careful and don’t get caught, if eliminated that can jeopardize your severance and open yourself to legal risk. If it’s just personal they probably won’t care but obviously with ppt decks and other things, you might be sc--wing yourself over.
