I find it funny how so many people like to look at Nike from ten years ago as some amazing place to work where everything was sunshine and roses. How quickly some of you forget. This place has been brutal for decades. The only difference is that they're not as good at hiding it anymore as they once were. There's no "old Nike" versus the "new Nike." It's all the same fu---d up mess.

The toxic culture has always been there - in varying degrees.,… they cannot hide it anymore. The bloated organization is bursting at the seams with a toxic mix of failed leadership and high school behaviors . Case in point, the toxic bully leader of NSRL. MN, Rewarding the favorites while pushing out the worker bees, and those who only want to get their jobs done. Is it about serving the athletes anymore? or, if you have a body you are an athlete? More like your position in the pyramid scheme is what matters, the great organization forgot to nurture its most important resource - “we the people”. Now the chickens have come home to roost. JD is not the only problem - go deeper
@1zww+1rIpMLBV been here 25+ years here myself and 100% agree with everything you said. Don't know about your area but the area of Nike I work in has changed since around 2016 and even more so the past 4 years. I can literally create a timeline of major events that made the most impact.
Strong disagree. I’ve been here almost 22 years and the company is quite different from when I started.
The culture used to be much stronger and working here genuinely felt like working with family. We worked hard and played just as hard. I was friends outside of work with most of my colleagues. There was far less process and bureaucracy and most people felt free to speak their mind. There was real magic in the air and you could feel it. We had a constant sense that better days were always ahead. It was a dynamic place to work because we wanted to win!
Now I frequently get bogged down in process, I no longer fully understand where the business is going, I’m constantly on guard against accidentally offending someone with a comment that wouldn’t have even received a second thought ten years ago, I’m more personally distanced from my colleagues than I used to be, and in the last few years I’ve spent significant time worrying how long it will be until I’m shown the exit door. Amongst several other issues.
There very much is an “old Nike” and a “new Nike”. I’d submit that anyone who disagrees probably wasn’t around very long at “old Nike”.
Agree with OP! Was at Nike for 7 years and the best day I had there was the day I decided to leave. Never bought into it and drank the cool aid.
Maybe not Old v New but a Pre v Post JJ era that impacted the culture of the company dramatically. Correct it didn’t happen overnight and when we replaced recruiting student athletes who brought intelligence and passion for the athletes to a flood of people from the Gap, JCrew, AF, insert vertical AP retailer here …we went from a collaborative matrix to a top down retail org driven by individual ego. That leadership team is still calling the shots.
Not too sure about men's vs women's pay delta - In my group ~200 folks each s-x has parity.
It’s a toxic environment. They do not care about the people that actually do the work.
Leadership and medium is a joke. Same old boys clubs rebranded. Huge pay inequities between new hires vs old timers, and men’s versus women’s.
Been here for 15 years and I agree, the only difference is they use to give us alcohol to excess and ability to say or do anything prior to today. (At least from my white male perspective)
