Who’s doing the great walk out 2/3 (after bonus)

There is a lot of banter about “after bonus I am giving notice”. Other than not having a reference for next resume, what are the ramifications of quitting vs. giving 2 weeks notice. Can WF withhold vacation pay outs, stock options, differed comp, etc.? I cannot find anything in Employee Handbook or Teamworks.

If WF fires me they would not give any notice.

I know this is what Chainsaw is waiting for, “the big quit”, which is likely why layoffs have slowed and will likely pick up again in Feb. Many are waiting on severance, but leaving my head in the guillotine any longer is unhealthy.

You win Chainsaw!! I would rather quit on my own terms. Maybe just stop coming into work and see how long it takes for management to realize and fire me (could milk another couple weeks out of this chit-show)!!

Folks thinking about leaving for Portugal or Spain, while it sounds idyllic, they have their economic woes. People looking for jobs, since many Europeans see it as a sunny place. But Spain is dealing with extensive droughts and Portugal has a rising cost of living. So Good Luck

If you've been here longer than 4 months, you're owed severance in full for all the sh-t the Company has put us through. Keep in mind, those cu-ts in HY want you to quit.....don't let the ba----ds grind you down.

WF only confirms employment. They do not provide a reference anyway. As managers we are not allowed to provide a reference either or could be subject to dismissal. Its all about avoiding lawsuits.

Worked with a guy several years ago who ditched the US for Spain. Went to visit him right before Covid and he was loving life. Had taken an entry level job at a financial services firm and was moving his way up the ladder. Only worked four days a week and spent a lot of time doing everything but work. Was super happy he made that decision.

I'm not letting Shart off the hook. He wants me out, he'll have to pay severance. It's that simple. As usual he's a complete failure as a leader. His announcement that a billion dollars of severance is available will reduce voluntary terms. Why leave for free when the CEO is announcing that he'll pay you to leave? He really is an id--t and has NO idea what he's doing.

I just had a surgery, and I just was away for many weeks so time to think!

United States as a whole is going down.

The middle class is becoming non-existent and I am middle class so my whole thought is to get the eff out of the United States because I’m not all about hustle culture. When I only got about 40 years left of life.

I’m thinking Portugal!

Beach, good food, good community! I could just clean porta potties all day there, and I’d be happier!

This country, and this bank is putrid!

Most financially smart thing to do is be looking for a new job now. It will take you weeks or even months to get interviews, offers, and a start date. Way more than enough time to get your bonus before leaving WF.

There is a lot of big talk about wanting severance or going to walk out after bonuses. Reality is , it’s tough to find a job right now and it will take 4-6 months unless you know someone. So reality says you will stick it out until you find something else. Many will balk if it’s a lower paying job and will forget the toxic environment and put money over all things.

WF is an “at will” employer so you aren’t required to give a two week notice. Also your mgr is not allowed to provide any employment references, there is only employment verification. Never burn your bridges ( maybe someone from WF will be working at your new employer) so IMO you should give a two week notice.

I have been saying since Oct. that I am giving notice on 2/5. Have another job lined up working for college buddy at another financial institution. He knows about my bonus, and the job is a new FTE, so he’s been cool with waiting.

Correct!
It usually takes about a 20% bump to justify a move to another state. But then again, that doesn't take into account the above concerns. With this company, definitely not worth it.

OP again for some more context, this time around the "just move to another state" posts. WE STILL DON'T KNOW IF WE WILL BE GIVEN THAT OPTION!

I might stand a good chance, as I work in a highly specialized role that's been difficult for WF to reliably fill. I also have decent seniority under my belt at this point, so severance would be more costly to WF than allowing me to relocate.

But one thing you are really missing here is that moving for your job is not a simple decision. My spouse would also have to leave their job as well. It would mean moving us both even further from our families (we rarely get to see them as it is). It is also a massive expense and WF likely wouldn't foot the bill. In addition to all of the usual moving expenses (and there's so many little expenses that add up) my spouse and I would need to purchase a vehicle. We currently live in an urban environment with good public transit. We don't need a car and the expense isn't worth it when I can walk everywhere. Also I depend on my health care for medication that I require to live. Moving to a new state could mean difficulties in initially accessing that medication. While I do have WF-provided insurance, the healthcare network I'm in isn't everywhere.

Sadly WF doesn't pay me enough to be able to afford to purchase a vehicle, rent an apartment in a new state, and lose my spouse's income on top of it. It isn't a simple "just move for your job" situation for me or for anyone else.
