Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What is the most positive thing about working here?

I’ve been given a job offer in project management. I see a lot of downside but is there any upside?

Going home at the end of the day is the best thing about working here.

OP, you'll spend about 25%-50% of the time doing the PM work you were hired to do, 10% of the time defending yourself against back stabbers, 15-20% being stressed about it & the culture in general, 5% doing Develop U courses, 5-10% strategizing how to survive among the stack ranking & back stabbing, and about 5-10% looking for a new job. Capiche?

If it's your first job out of college

If it's your first Jon out of college, maybe do it for 6 months to 2 years and then move, if the culture/CEO has not changed for the better in that time. Otherwise, run for the hills, especially if you have experience. If you just want to collect a check & can turn a blind eye to everything else listed by the other posters here, go for it, but don't say you weren't warned here first :)

Who wants to stay at a company for a long-time? That’s an old school perspective and that’s what’s damaging WF. You need fresh ideas from the outside, combined with some institutional knowledge. An unpopular point of view, but it’s true. This is why historically other mega banks were not pounding on the door to poach Wells employees.

Pay, benefits and a light work load.
However, I am now seeing many positions outside the company that are paying just as well.
If RTO becomes a problem I’ll be jumping ship soon. Instead of working at a suburb location, some are now forcing people to go into the city. This is only to save the real estate costs, which is mostly owned by Blackrock and Vanguard.
That is not going to end well for the people trying to force it.

Almost 20 yrs here......I don't recommend it to anyone. No amount of pay, PTO, benefits will make you like your job in a place with a culture like Wells has. It's not that the people are bad people, but it seems literally every department is chaos. Managers are not leaders, they are mostly individual contributors who happen to have direct reports. That means they have to do a few administrative things a couple times a year associated with performance reviews, but they are otherwise inundated/swamped with serving the boss above them in a daily mess of fire drills, sudden need for immediate info, PowerPoint summaries, talking points. Your manager will not likely have any time to help you understand (they'll likely count on you to help them understand) or overcome the roadblocks your facing as they simply don't have time for you......until they suddenly need you to help with one of those requests from their boss.
You'll be asked to partner with co-workers who are geographically dispersed everywhere and who are as facing the same kinds of challenges you are with little-to-no direction as well. Not everyone, but a growing percentage of employees are disengaging because they either don't know what their supposed to be doing or have moved to no longer caring.
If I felt I could come close to matching this pay/benefits package and seamlessly take a new job outside of Wells, the door most certainly wouldn't hit me on the way out. I feel like tens of thousands might feel the same.
Good luck in your decision.

I worked here 38 years and just got axed. Best advise I can give you is do Not Come here. It used to be good until 4 years ago when Charlie and the minions came and destroyed our company. They do not give a sh&t about you or anyone. You will be mentally abused. Go to a company that will respect you and promote you. It is not going to happen here

The most positive thing happens when you put in your 2 week notice and you see the light at the end of the tunnel and realize you’re about to be free from this cesspool

I would be really cautious accepting a PM role here. I believe they got rid of the PMO (for tech at least) and discontinued a lot of the PM forums.

I was/am a PM myself. I was able to move into a different role after seeing everything moving to Agile. I am careful not to mention I was a PM. A lot of other PM's jumped ship to other roles as well.

Best thing about Wells Fargo? Finishing work for the day. Like other's have said, it's not good for a long-term career and the current members of the C-Suite have done a lot of things to tank morale. I used to like working here so it's sad to see what it's become.

I would be concerned about a project manager role. They switched most areas to Agile so not as much need for project management, esp as related to technology initiatives.

@OP+1mYhil86 I have worked here for a long time.....and I wouldn't advixe anyone to to work at WF. It USED to be a good place to work. Knowing what I know now, if I had the chance to choose my career path again, it definitely wouldn't be banking. Not sure what CU's are like? I'm so close to retirement is the only reason I'm still hanging on.

Whatever you decide, good luck1

The best thing is you’ll be far more motivated to secure yourself financially so you can “get out” far quicker than you ever imagined.

I've been around a long time OP. If you're looking for a 3-5 year gig, it's not a bad idea. Long term? Probably not. Counter and ask for full remote and big $$$$. If they say yes, you know they actually want you.

There is nothing positive here. Worst company ever with a corrupt CEO. Low employee moral. They will ax you fast when you are no longer needed. Do yourself a favor and go work for a great company. 76

It eventually ends! That’s when the relief begins! Sleep returns to normal, healthier eating habits take place, stop buying new goods and services to ‘cope’ with sh---y life. You’ll see!!
