Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

When are the CEO and high-up managers going to be fired.

My humble opinion is that this company should get a new CEO and fresh high up managers.

The problem isn’t the workers. There’s a lot of smart people in the company. Most are great. The problem is management. This company should hire a non-oil and gas CEO so that it can reinvent itself and survive.

If I were you, I’d be looking at options outside oil and gas. This is the time to change. Don’t get comfortable!

As worker bees, we've been asked over and over to be innovative and creative, to help the company stand out. How have management done just that? Through this crisis, they have done nothing but play by the old school book. I was greatly appalled when the CEO said there will be no salary cuts to save jobs, cause IOL needs to be competitive with their compensation. Wtf?! Where are people leaving to at this c-appy time in the industry?! We are all thankful to have a job, and many would be happy to take a pay cut to save their job or their fellow colleague's. Turns out CNRL is a better company than IOL.

@1qqt+196RK1hQ Same here. Took a tough stand against a team lead who was setting me up to failure due to his laziness and incompetence. Ended up being mobbed, gaslighted by both team lead and supervisor for 6 months until I was finally laid off despite having a good record and going above & beyond for my experience level (0-3 years).

Not surprising because when incompetent and inexperienced people are promoted to leadership positions, they will make even the highly motivated and capable employees lose motivation and eventually set them to fail to protect their image, pride, inflated ego and eliminate anyone perceived to potentially challenge their growth. Maybe the top management is serious about culture change, but many team leads and supervisors seriously lack behavioral skills and are not capable of understanding and evaluating technical work based on merit. Being a glib tongue talker, presentation jockeys, being narrow-minded, defensive attitude, stealing credit for others work, s—ing up to people of power etc. are come common traits I have observed amongst the low level leaders (people with power). Unless someone is desperate to get their severance package or have their performance review impacted, please DON'T approach management for help if you have concerns. They WILL retaliate.

Loved the job, and most of the colleagues I worked with, but experience with management (team-lead and supervisor) was very disappointing. Happy to have left that toxic environment they created for me.

I pointed out flaws and proposed alternatives and had my career torpedoed. I don’t recommend it unless you’re hoping for a severance package.

Not defending the execs, but IOL isn’t full of smart people. Take a look at Controllers. Most of them can be replaced with a macro or two.

Also, most people kept buying company stock despite it being NSI for a decade.

IOL/XOM is a very closed culture and the ones who get ahead are in the image of the existing management team, hence things never change despite the sloganeering and posters and snazzy websites.
Maybe they should try promoting someone who isn't a clone and see what happens.......

There is a concept called the 10th man, role of the tenth is to disagree and point out flaws in whatever decision the group has reached. However, not here. Dissent is actively suppressed with a Stalinist fervor.

Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) was given to Companies so that Canadian employees can work continuously in their current job due to covid business loss.. Instead of paying this CEWS employees, IOL upper management use this money for their profit and stocks and their high salaries. They fired many many employees rather than lowering their wages. How come management get million dollars profit and shares when Company can't make profit. These id–ts should be fired first including all mid level Managers and their a– s—er supervisors. Almost all of the oil companies including Suncor lowered salaries from CEO level. It is a clear corruption by IOL. If anyone notify this to to federal and provincial govt. and request for an audit about unfair utilization of CEWS by Imperial. Executive and management will be trapped and sued if govt. perform fair and detail audit.
