Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Job security is gone for good

Think about it. There was a time when layoffs were a way to get rid of the lowest performers. Not anymore. Now, layoffs aren’t based on performance but on meeting a certain percentage of people in a number of categories. That means that it's now become the luck of the draw if your group is affected. Which means loss of job security for everybody.

The only ones with job security in any given group are the good ol' boys who have formed a clique long, long ago.

The routine is easy: You hire your sacrificial lambs for the next sl------r as soon as you get the green light to hire more people. You give them minimal training and minimal work, then generally leave them alone, giving them average good grades at review time. If attrition shrinks the clique, you pick your survivor and hire another lamb to replace him/her, -or- you specifically hire a buddy from outside.

Been doing this for nearly two decades now. Frank's management is just as brain-dead to this as Jeff's management was, and many of us are about to skate right into retirement this way.

Those USB devices are against policy. I would advise against that.

"Completely false, try again. When exactly was the latest layoff? Not one post out of last several, merely I am leaving because I am mad at Frank cause he expects me to work with my colleagues together and take care of my clients, two things not required at OFSV."

The last big action was in Sep, when two of my team members and my director were impacted. Almost everyone I've worked with over the past five years got the 'relo or gtfo' ultimatum in the same time period.

Stop lying.

I fundamentally do not understand the point of Sapience and other corporate spyware... it makes no sense to me from a business perspective.

First of all, if you don't trust me, why did you hire me? Secondly... If I am hired to do XYZ, shouldnt I earn my salary regardless of whether or not it takes me 20 hours a week or 60 hours a week to complete XYZ???

The system they are pushing incentivizes being slow and inefficient, pretending to work rather than doing your job. I've noticed that the coworkers bragging about working 60 hours a week, are the same ones that are having laps run around them when it comes to tasks we can standardize and measure across a team.

Thats why spyware like Sapience makes no sense to me. If I am literally twice as fast as a coworker completing tasks, why should I be punished? Fiserv certainly doesn't reward efficiency, but my question is, why punish it? I think this ties into the entire work from home vs office debate also. Management has become so disconnected that they have lost track of what a successful business should care about: Letting employees do their jobs and rewarding efficiency.

You have to give yourself your own job security. Keep your skills razor sharp, always be interviewing, keep an emergency fund, and don't expect anyone on planet earth to give a fu-k about you other than you

"Sapience statistics will be looked at I'm sure. That's why I be sure to jiggle the mouse periodically while I check out sketch vids. "
You can buy keep-alive USB sticks. Plugs into an USB port and uses a mouse driver so VDIs, Laptops etc will accept them. Moves your mouse for you once a second or so.

But yeah job security in the Fintech and the entire IT industry is zero. There is always someone willing to do your job for less. These companies dont give a damn about you and your teams mates will forget you in a few days. Always do what is best for yourself and your family and make sure Fiserv doesn't drain your social and personal hobby time.
