Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Union? Don't be a fool!

as much as I don't like VZ, Union is not the answer.

The answer is to find another job!

Union to pay dues and for what? Verizon tomorrow can close your store and the Union won't do cr-p, or do you think they will stop that?

Leave verizon with their 19-year-old reps and find another job.

Verizon leadership doesn't tolerate performance based rewards either. They get rid of them at every turn. At least the union pushes to retain what benefits we do have and higher hourly, better scheduling, sane disciplinary practices.

Verizon management will get rid of anything if it can make the SVP the COO.

@3diw+1ivRGi7F-complaing about union dues($40 a month) but offers no other solution. The fact Verizon is so against it is the sole reason everbody should be joining. It may or may not help me but it sure has he-l will hurt them. Look at all that we lose each year by not joining. If you think it's gonna get better by doing nothing you are mistaken.
@nqy+1ivRGi7F
"Reason #1 why do companies leave the US? Union!!!" How have you survived all these years?!?!?! That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Companies leave the US because they don't want to pay living wages to US workers.

If there was a vote for union tomorrow I would still vote for it because of leadership. Dont care about the comp plan going back to individual. I just want to hit leadership where it hurts. They can fire me and close our store. I'll be fine. I'll gladly move onto something else. In fact Tmo already said they'd hire me if I'm let go. Hans deserves a union against him. Take your golden parachute and leave sir.

The union does not tolerate performance based rewards for employees. They only work within a seniority based reward framework. So the guy next to you that spent the last 20 yrs perfecting their booger flicking technique WILL get paid more than you, the top salesperson in the region... all because you've only been there three years. And, why? Because he's paid 20 yrs worth of dues while you've only paid three.

If you liked individual commission... If you're looking for the good old days to come back, choosing the union will GUARANTEE those days will be gone forever.

3lob: What do we really have to lose at this point?
I'll tell you what we have to lose... more pay in the form of union dues.
Dues to an organization that works WITH the companies they're supposed to be protecting people from.
All you have to do is open your eyes and ears a little and you'll see just how little they actually do for their members. The things they DO accomplish are the things Verizon ALLOWS them to accomplish.

It's simple. Unions benefit the employees not the company. That's why they are so against it. Do you really think if a Union benefited the company they would give two sh--s what it would do to us, the employees? Did they care when they got rid of individual commission? Did they care when they gave little to no raises with inflation through the roof? So, ask yourself, why do they all of a sudden "care" if we want a Union? You can be sure they will be holding their yearly group meetings on why Unions are bad after all these pro Union post. Not sure how long you all have been with this company but I have been here long enough to see what once was a great company turn to trash. Each year, pay and benefits are decreasing. Corporate stores, call centers/wfh are being eliminated. That is enough of a reason for me to want to join a Union. Look at what's become of this company. It's on its last legs and a Union can't be any worse than this. What do we really have to lose at this point?

You guys have no idea how scared they are of a union. Came across a Slack group that was sharing screen shots of this board and another private invite only one. They are seriosuly freaking out. Whole team of HR nob heads. The fact that they are so against it, tells me that it's the right thing to do.

We talk to our rep. They nod, frown and scribble in their notebook.

We go to the meetings. They feed us sugar and caffeine. They get us all worked up. We shout out our complaints. They yell in agreement.

The odd thing is: NOTHING EVER CHANGES. NOTHING EVER GETS BETTER.
Now we all hate the CWA as much or more than we ever hated Verizon.

The worst part is we asked for this.

Its not even out of spite for the company. Its more of a giant middle finger to Mr. Hanzi Scheme for ruining a once good company

What is this pay @ @1wzy+1ivRGi7F you are talking about? Are you talking about the field techs and splicers comparing them to WLS retail? Apples and oranges. The Sales Ops and HQ teams are nearly identical in pay. They might get more overtime but last I check, WLS reps don’t really want to work more in a store so what’s the point. Are you referring to their call centers? Are there anymore corporate own WLN Fios stores anymore? Around the country , they have all been sold off or closed.

The unions power comes from everyone joining. Of course the first 5 stores aren't seeing the benefits that could be bargained if all stores unionized. Just look at the pay the wireline union gets. That because they have a large group. But someone has to go first.

So here is my take on getting a union at Verizon. Contact a store or employee that has a union in place. Ask what the benefits have been since joining the union. It's with this information you can make a rational decision. The only valid reason at this time for voting a union in would be out of SPITE. That's good enough for me so sign me up.

does Union make decisions about your Quota? NOOOOOOOO!

Why would Verizon listen to them about that? You are a fool if you think work conditions will change just because you pay $80 a month for these fools.

Verizon sucks...... but the union won't make it any better other than you paying some to do nothing.....

I work in a unionized store. We all have our dues withdrawn. We're holding up our end.
None of us have even heard from the union. We're not getting paid any more than the non union stores. Our workload is no better. Nothing has changed and there is no evidence it will.
Don't be as foolish as we were.

@1kzq+1ivRGi7F - stop with your fear mongering bs. This kind of bs lies is why people didn't go union and look where that got us. This company is too far gone now and we have nothing left to lose so might as well go union.

Lol! Verizon Landline makes double???? Do you have anymore VZ land stores on the west coast? Landline east coast has been bleeding customers for years. It is literally called out every quarter. Why aren’t there anymore VZ Com stores? Please understand your facts. The east coast is the last stance for landline. Even that has been outsourced to Indirect. BTW, how are the Union stores doing? Any better work life balance or quota relief? It is the same thing? Ask your union NY stores which has been unionized for a few years now.

Union fees are about 2% of your check, for what? You think they care about you?

if you think they care about you, you are probably a Brandon voter.

Reason #1 why do companies leave the US? Union!!!

Look at the car industry most of them gone to mexico, canada etc because it's cheaper for a company.

I get it, and trust me I hate verizon and worse Hans but Union won't do cr-p for you and do the math on how much money is going out the window.

Union iss definitely the answer! Management more than likely sucks in anyones case and the only way to create change which is by holding leadership accountable. With Verizon unionizing nationwide this would lead to better work life schedule, the right amount of support in stores, and a more pay. Just gotta have the cajones to do it

Verizon fios/landline is Union and they make double what wireless makes. It's mind boggling how after all these years, the wireless side just stood back and accepted this fact. Look were that got us. Wireless should have went Union years ago. Wireless should go Union. It can't be any worse than it already is. What do you really have to lose now?

Lol the union busters back. Once their incognito mode downvotes got called out they cooked up this little scheme. Expect more of it.

How about instead of running from things people stand up and fight for fair treatment? What are union dues, 40$ a month? Given how poorly reps are treated that's the best money we could spend.
