Easily the biggest thing wrong with this place and the largest laggard in the collection of sub groups under the giant umbrella.
Most employees in this vertical are terrible, being a loyal sycophant is rewarded more then trying to do any meaningful work.
I'm a wireless guy, but I hate to see DirecTV bashed so often on here. That was a fine company. All premium TV services (cable, satellite) have felt the pain of cord cutting over the last few years. They'd have been losing tons of subs whether we owned them or not.
Now, it's certainly fair to question T leadership on paying the premium price for a product toward the end of shelf life.

Seriously though, the biggest drag on AT&T by far is its CEO, Randall 'The Rat' Stephenson. The very same one who gave $Billions to our competitor T Mobile over his botched deal. The same CEO that has loaded up this company with debt to buy overpriced acquisitions that are either outdated technology (sorry DTV) or completely incompatible with T's management style (Warner Media).
The only thing worse than Randall is his heir apparent, John Stankypuss. As bad as it is now, just wait until that arrogant buffoon takes over!
I suspect landline consumer telephony is the biggest drag on AT&T. The fixed costs remain the same, it's labor intensive, and does anyone have anybody in their contact list with a landline phone.
When 800MHZ 5G cellular goes nationwide, I think AT&T will attempt to shut down some copper.
Nothing wrong with DirecTV except for the debt we took our to ruin it. Now the execs don't care about NFL Sunday Ticket either...

2 legacy DTV VPs announce their intention to leave AT&T 2/21. Coincidental? Trimming the EG (Entertainment Group) fat and there's plenty more VPs and AVPs that can be shown the exits.

You can’t blame everything on AT&T for the direct tv decline. No one wants a big ugly dish mounted on the front of their house with coax wires going all over the place! This is the old dying technology....streaming is the future get used to it. Also the T is still using quite a few direct TV contractors a lot of them do pretty bad/Shoddy work!

Word. The OP description of how T destroyed DTV burnt with such intensity I became temporarily blinded.
Direct TV is not the joke OP, AT&T is. They acquire perfectly fine businesses and then proceed to completely destroy the business, p!ss of its customers, and turn good places to work into a micromanaged, dysfunctional corporate hellhole.
As the previous poster said, DTV was doing just fine on their own. They are not the problem, AT&T management is.
We were doing fine until this piece of junk company whose only experience in broadcasting was the piece of junk uverse ruined what was a nice place to work. Everything AT&T touches is jinxed.
Bad employees you say? Well your engineers are the absolute worst I've ever come across as HBO Max will soon prove. End of story.
should of never bought direct tv - for the irregulars lawsuit looks like this did nothing but cost customers, employees, and the nation as whole while a bunch of suits made out like bandits.
I am convinced they bought direct tv to k–l the competition and should of never been allowed by the FCC. but when the head of the fcc is former employee of verizon what do you expect.
I can only hope the irregulars lawsuit bring some justice to the industry.
