Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Member Service Suffering

I have never seen hours being cut the way they are now. Our club is so short handed, the front end lines are horrible. Long lines to get out the door also. Nobody to answer calls. What is going on ? I have heard the following reasons:

It is due to associates receiving a Sam's Share
It is due to the Management getting bonuses
It is based on last years numbers and the people getting COVID pay
It is because the companies profit margin has shrunk due to rising prices

Please someone tell me what is driving this?

I personally think it’s because they are trying to push the members into using scan and go and self-check out. If the members use that they won’t need cashiers. They are already taking out registers on the front end. We only have four in our club.

Means no one is doing your schedules 🤣 if you don’t actually edit them… oh they’re ugly! You will be all sorts of fck’d. My club… all PT with open availability are scheduled minimum 32 hours. Because we are short, short, short.

Whenever asking why corporate office does anything, the answer is always----greed. Power & control are also usual answers as well.

We got the song and dance that the company doesn't want to increase their prices, which they are anyhow, so they trim hours because that is the only thing they can control. BS.....total greed.

Corporate greed. They have to deliver the same profit percentage increase year over year or else the big money investors pull out. 10 percent increase in sales and profit that's why they always want 15 to 20 percent in the clubs. If not it's payroll cut.

Costco doesn’t seem to have this problem with staffing. They have TONS of employees in every area.
