Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Unhappy employees, but what will you actually do?

So it's clear there's a lot of people unhappy, and a lot of you also saying things have gone downhill.

So what legally can you do to put forward a class action lawsuit? Sure it is unethical, but is any of it illegal? Have any of you actually talked to a lawyer? What will you actually do? Just get a new job? Curious

There's no such thing as an at-will employer. There are at-will states.

Also, the job market isn't bad, it's strange. The process is taking longer, but longer hiring process doesn't mean bad. I do think it's about to get bad because the incoming admin will force us into a recession.

I'm focused on trying to get out there as soon as I can. I'm not even complaining much anymore. Just working on getting out. I hate how everyone is now too scared to leave the building. The energy in the office is depressing.

To the point of the OP. I know at least me and one other person have attempted to get a union started. Both of us have made contact with organizers even. No one else wants to risk getting that ball rolling. The other person. Was supposed to be setting up a website and a couple of other things to allow people to dip their toe in with out too much risk. I.e. you could make contact with an anon email account to start with. I haven't heard too much more about their effort since then.

Every one of us is in front of the same firing squad. So we we've got the same amount to lose
But then again we're all in front of the same squad and we're afraid of what we could lose. It's just the position CEOs like frank want us in. Too scared to do anything. That means he can do absolutely anything, and no one will stop him. As long as the job market is bad, he won't even lose staff faster than he's concerned about. If nothing else, he's a cuningly good abuser.

Fiserv is an “at will” employer, they can let you go at any time for nothing more than saying we’ve decided to go in a different direction. To be clear i am NOT defending the company or this terrible exec leadership team, they are the worst in the industry.

@1jgk+1w5bypB8 but that's not happening and it's just mental circlej--king to feel good if nothing is happening.

@wal+1w5bypB8 that attitude is why they're getting away with 90% of what they're getting away with. They've entered into a contract with us to exchange our labor, skills, and time for payment. If you're salaried the emphasis is on skills. If you're a wage employee, the emphasis is on time and labor. At no time ever have they acquired "ownership" of us in any way. But they seem to think and act like they have. And then you follow along with them agreeing the whole way.

As a singular employee your options are pretty limited since you're going up against an 800lb gorilla by yourself. If you group together, i.e. form a union. Now you've got a battle between Kong and Godizilla. You'll still lose some fights, but now you can at least win some of them.

No one owns me. No one owns you.

"You can leave.. as an employee they own you and they make the rules."

That's Feudalism you are describing.

Nothing, because capital always trumps labor.

There’s nothing that you can do legally unless they violate labor laws. Trust, Fiserv has attorneys to assist them to keep them out of the red.
