AT&T Inc.’s Randall Stephenson was able to score a double-digit gain in compensation for the first time in three years – and other execs fared well too.
The CEO received a total package of $32 million in 2019, a 10 percent gain from the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing. That’s the biggest gain since 2016 with Stephenson seeing increases of less than 2 percent in each of the two years after that, according to another document on file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The payout came as a chief operating officer was named last year with John Stankey, whose promotion made him the key executive in line for the top job. He saw a huge gain in compensation after holding the position of CEO of WarnerMedia, jumping to $22.5 million, or 36 percent.
AT&T (NYSE:T) is coming off a year that showed some progress. That included emerging victorious after another court battle with the U.S. Department of Justice over the acquisition of Time Warner, paying down billions of dollars in debt and working through an activist investor’s pressure.
CFO John Stephens saw an increase again in 2019, though smaller than in 2018. David McAtee, general counsel, saw a decrease in total compensation after his bonus was reduced. That extra payout in 2018 was tied to the completion of the acquisition of the Time Warner deal.
Stephenson’s salary of $1.8 million was unchanged while stock awards showed the biggest gain, rising to $19.8 million. Stankey’s salary rose, along with every other item except for “all other compensation,” which includes personal benefits and life insurance.“

Imagine if Randall were the President of the United States.

We would probably owe China $100B and he would have laid off all the medical staff and sold off all the Hospital buildings by now to pay for it :P

A desperate cash grab, especially when a company is struggling, is an indicator of a company's imminent demise. They know more than we do.

Transparency: 1. Who sets the 10% and 35% for stankey 2. Who approves those %'s 3. Time for that or those individuals to go!

Meanwhile, our stock is down to $32.

CoronaVirus scared have almost everyone down. But since At&T didn’t have the big increase within the last few years, this hurts even more.

I also don’t see it recovering. Att TV is a joke, and no one cares about HBO Max.

Combined with all the wells-Fargo like sales tactics, we are all on a sinking ship.
