@1xq No, why bother? Just fork over the cash because that stock is probably going to be worthless in 5 to 10 years. Ford used to have this cycle of ups and downs, but they'd pull through thanks to real employee loyalty and genuine care for the company and each other. That doesn't seem to happen anymore. Farley's turned it into a generic corporation, hiring outside "experts" to design vehicles while completely disrespecting the actual skills of current employees and the value of hard work. It's all just fluff now. You're supposed to BS your way to the top, and sc--wing over your coworkers is fine as long as it gets you where you want to go. Ford just isn't what it used to be.

@18x

This is great advice. Are you my manager? I broke into a cold sweat while reading it. You must be on the right track.

@18x I know some real psychopaths that have done really well.

This is official: Do the hard work and you will make it. Being smart helps. Looking good helps. Having a solid network helps. Nepotism, a major plus. A slight dose of sociopathy also helps. Psychopathy too, but not too much. EQ is a minus, if you feel other people's pain - that's a major drag.

Ego issues is a help, a lot, it'll drive you.

Being right helps, but being confidently wrong helps even more. Now, accountability is important. Mainly for people below you. Taking credit is a must.... Sharing credit is optional &should be done only when there are witnesses.

Blame management is a core skill - cannot climb w/out it... You need to speak in abstractions, because details are where promises go to die.

Vocabulary. Need to say "strategy" a lot. Get used to it. Say "alignment" even more. If you are not good at this, spend more time on LinkedIn.

Never admit you do not know something just say "we need to look at this holistically" and the problem will go away...

Loyalty does help. Nurture it, but only upward. Downward loyalty is waste of time work, it aint gonna get u promoted...

Moral flexibility is useful.

Memory loss is useful too (you'll need this to forget about all sh-t initiatives you sponsored and that failed).

Finally, developing thick skin is a must but a thin conscience helps more...

Hope this helps.

Do GSR8 employees ever get stock benefits?

LL6 is a sh---y role in every way, including compensation. Don't be an LL6 unless your goal is to become LL5 or higher.
LL5 is where all the money and annual stock awards and other secret benefits kick in, vs LL6. LL6 is just a GSR8.5

One more point to add..... do what ever it takes to get promoted to LL5 using the same below routine.

LL6 = Go to meetings everyday, solve nothing, steal idea's from lower kiss a-s , act important, large ego, arrogant, lazy, take care of personal business on company...

My Observation:
• Work Performance: The LL6 seems to lack accountability and never takes assignments.
• Personality and Behavior: The LL6 has no personality and spends a lot of time in the bathroom.
• Interpersonal Behavior: The LL6 always says “yes” and flirts with their boss.

@eq

Depends on what you consider "glorified". I'd call it an operational demotion personally. You can make just as much money as a GSR8 without all the BS drama.

LL6 is a glorified GSR8. Just find the job on Jobs online and apply…..any higher you got to be in the club!!!! You will know if your in the club or not!!!

@OP

You accept that promotion you knew in your gut you didn't want. Your wife said you shouldn't do it. Now you're miserable being the slab of meat in front of your employees and the upper management (only if you're a 6). You regret the day you took the bump for a 10-15k raise maybe more, but does it matter now? You've got this piece of $hit they made you lease when you already had a perfectly good car that's paid off. Why'd you do this again? Now if you take a demotion or ask for one it could be bad for your career but you're starting to not care anymore. Why'd you do this again?

Want to crack the CE1 code? Simple: get yourself hired by a former Apple Cobbler LL3, because nothing says “meritocracy” like a founder’s club where the secret handshake is a Cupertino badge. Congrats, you’ve been leveled up a rare feat in a world where tech bros typically down-level anyone who didn’t drink their specific Kool-Aid. Let the nepotism chauffeur you for a year, collect your promotion like it was always yours, and repeat until comfortable. It’s basically a subscription service for upward mobility.

Alternatively, arrive as an Indian or Chinese national on an H-1B or if the universe smiled on you, a green card and you’ve got your own express lane through the same glorious machine. Different passport, same playbook. Just make sure you LLX is one or the other.

Because here’s the thing: nepotism isn’t just a perk here, it’s load-bearing infrastructure. Without it, congratulations you get to rot at your current level indefinitely. Sure, you’ll get your annual raise, but Ford quietly inflates the salary bands every year too, so you’re basically running on a treadmill and calling it a commute. Salary alone will never get you out of the band. Never.

And don’t be confused by the org chart oddities yes, you’ll spot LL5s and LL6s with zero direct reports, just vibing at altitude. How’d they get there? See above. Reread if necessary.

Let’s not forget our colleagues south of the border. The TN visa members-only club at Ford: a tight-knit network where the handshake comes before the work, throwing things over the wall is standard operating procedure, and accountability goes to die. The network runs deep, the silos run deeper, and cross-functional collaboration is apparently lost in translation.
