Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I literally do Nothing

I'm a long-time WF employee. As proof, I offer that today's Teamworks homepage has headlines for stories "Something in all of us broke", "Life without LIBOR", "A holistic approach", and a lot of DE&I tripe.

I literally do nothing. All day. Every day. My manager hasn't had 3 conversations with me in 3 years. He knows I'm here, because of annual reviews. I get all that Mandatory Training done on time which I guess keeps me off the radar.

As far as I can assume, the only reason I (and several others) are on the payroll is to provide increments of headcount to protect our manager from Spans and Layers.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy to be earning(?) the ching that I'm making, and I'm just marking my time until retirement. I could retire today and be just fine, and for sure I'll be retiring within a couple years anyway. At this point every paycheck is a mini bonus, so I'm not going to rock the boat.

But it's asinine what is going on at this company. I'd be happy to take a Package if one were offered.

I wish I had this problem instead to way too much work

Stop bragging. My manager often meets several times a day multiple times a week. It would nice to be able to focus on getting work done.

I could have written this post. My manager knows I can take on more. Either they don’t care or I’m getting laid off. In the past I was slammed with work, and there is no incentive to me to ask for more work (again).
Let’s see how the mid-year review goes.

@1mbr+1b1shpbE. They aren't laying off dead wood. They are laying off people that do work and others still here like myself are now having to take on their work as well. It is past dinner time for most people, but here I am grabbing a couple bites to eat and I still have a few more hours of work to put in just to keep my head above the water and get weekends free.

You must be in marketing. I know people who spend all day working on outside freelance projects and grumble when they have to pay attention to WF work.

This has gone on for years now. They are still here.

@1rrt nails it for me. Every job I've been in there are always those who have to put in overtime to get the same volume of work done that I complete in 2-4 hours. If never fails that they call me lazy, but I see them spending hours BS'ing with people rather than getting their work done in time.

He-l, one time I had to pick up a huge project one of these people quit rather than do. I added it to my workload without even having to alter my daily routine.

Yet that punk complained to management that I was lazy. This was hilarious since my at the time manager called me his workhorse.

Same for me. I’ve talked to my manager twice this year. We have an entire team that is listed as developers however we are Application Support Engineers. We’ve raise this concern to NC many times but he has his talking point regardless. My direct manager is only concerned about head count not about effectiveness.

When I have nothing to do, I seek more work. But then again I have a work ethic.

And people are angry when hearing the words dead wood or dead weight. OP is not the only one. Laying off is the right thing to do.

wow, so what "do you do" for the bank? Not joking, just curious what LOB you're in that you feel that you literally do not contribute anything.. I have worked a job or two here where I felt I had more free time but it was just because I was very efficient at the work. So what may have been 2-4 hours of work for me for the day would take someone else 8-10 hours. That to me is ok, but literally not having any work to do is very odd. Do others in your group have enough to do? Why not offer to help out?

One of my many managers in the last few years had 40 under him so he rarely spoke to me. I kept up my responsibilities that without hand holding though so he didn’t need to. I doubt he had a clue what I did though because it wasn’t in his wheelhouse despite being my manager. If I didn’t have a work ethic though I suppose I could have got away with what the OP did.

I’m in the same situation. My work has been handed over to developers and I have asked for more work. There is no role for me. Why are they keeping me here? I have tried posting out as well. Why don’t they just give me back I can still continue to pay my salary?
