Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo Employee Until No More

I have followed this board for a while and have come to realize that I am just wasting my time reading these posts but oh my, it is quite amusing and helps me cope with everything that is going on. OPs are either trolls or paranoid folks. The truth is no one knows how soon the ax will fall or whose head will be on the chopping block. Until then let’s try to enjoy the ride even though there is not much work to do. I am keeping my chin up by doing whatever work is available and keep drinking the Kool-Aid by embracing candor and following all the other “expectations”, blah, blah, blah! I have been around long enough to just go with the flow. That seems to be the less painful way to keep somewhat sane.

@1rpd from @qlu: I have been here much longer than you, unfortunately. Started at a good firm with good management and was acquired by WachFargo. I hark back to a day where people worked together for the common good of their employer and wanted to help each other out. I am critiquing Wells Fargo’s organizational structure not the employees. A point you might be right about is that I am definitely not used to the dog-eat-dog culture that exists at Wells Fargo today.

Not sure why you’re coming out swinging.

@qlu+16Y5dyTK You obviously haven't been here that long if you don't understand this. Groups are fighting over what work there is to try and prove they are relevant. This is the typical layoff mentality where people will try to look as busy as possible to sell the case that they are actually getting stuff done and producing for the bank.

Get out of here with that carryover ability garbage. You're supposed to be overqualified, underpaid, and willing to work a job that will absolutely make no use of your talents since spending time and money to get you up to speed is a waste. Career growth is so 3 decades ago. I've been here 21 years and have been sent to two training classes the entire time.

There is zero investment in the employee, you invest in yourself, your managers ego, or office politics if you want to move up.

Hmmm.... so we’ve got some groups overworked, and some groups doing nothing. Can anyone with more than a 6th grade education point out a major problem at Wells Fargo? Could it be all the individual cost centers which prevent departments from working together to get the work completed? I, obviously, can’t do legal work but I think there are a lot of jobs I could quickly learn in order to provide at least some assistance. And I would be proud to help.

As an example, while Wells Fargo choked on the PPP loans this Spring, Bank of America was taking entire teams from other areas and had them working day and night to get the loans processed. They were WFH just like Wells Fargo. My friend manages a Compliance Dept over there and her group worked long hours to process the loan applications. She, as the manager of her team, worked day and night and held herself accountable for the work.

I just can’t wrap my head around the lack of basic common sense in our leadership.

This is the problem at Wells, too many people that are "coasting". I have more work than I can handle working 60 hours a week, yet I can't get the couple of new hires I was promised at the end of 2019.

while some groups are busy with work, other groups are busy inventing work. Look no further than the ivory tower, ICS.

I've been through layoffs at other companies, and not having much work to do right before the ax falls is fairly common. Shouldn't blame members of the team (although it probably makes sense for them to look as productive as possible right now.) If there is rationalization of teams and projects, and/or plans for consolidation of teams, it's natural that work is being slowed or paused and for new projects to not be spun up. Unfortunately, it may not bode well for the team's future.

I became an expert in stretching out my work each day, and I was in great shape because I had time to work out at lunch every day while senior leaders held their closed door meetings...

This post makes me frustrated - not much work to do???. Sounds like you and your work group may be obsolete. My work group is working harder and faster than ever and there is no shortage of work on our plates.

While I appreciate the sentiment of this thread but I think it comes off highly sarcastic for some. The reading being is other’s lives aren’t as rosy as the OP’s and many of us need stability in order to pay debt, rent, food, kids and sick parents. Because I don’t live your debt free life and have many lives depending on me, I just can’t sit back and relax when my job might be eliminated with no warning or time frame. The sad part in all of this is that I know I will struggle finding another job, I know my job isn’t mission critical and, for me, education is my only salvation to up level my career but this is yet another bill I’ll need to juggle.

I wish I was debt free and could live a carefree life regardless of layoffs but that is a luxury I do not have. Yes people rant in these forums and I believe it’s because we are in a situation where the stakes are high and lives, other than my own, be negatively impacted.

OP: @zdo here. Thank you for your additional info. Just FYI, my question “Which are you? Paranoid or a troll ?” was my lame attempt at humor since you said OPs are either trolls or paranoid folks. As I said: lame. Meant no disrespect.

You prefer Ebonics, hieroglyphics, Sanskrit or petroglyphs from writing in text? What we are witnessing is the failure of the American educational system and San Francisco in particular. Good god people, how were you even hired?

OP is the only sane person in this conversation...

WTF does this incoherent drivel even mean.!.?!??!

“ A typical long time worker.....writing in text. Yes, they do create and respond to their corporate email in all caps or in text language. It is still unbelievable to me when I receive this type of email and know that I will be next in the laid off status because of my tenure and they will still be here. I truly believe an organization is as strong as their weakness link.”

Incoherent much?

@zdo: I am the OP and I am just a complacent 20+ year employee, f.k.a. Team Member. Life is too short to worry about my job or reinvent the wheel. I have zero debt, crib is paid for and have a sizable financial cushion in case they show me the door. Shall I also mention I am non-exempt minority, disabled female? Maybe that is way more information than what you asked for but I am throwing it all there just for your amusement. The reason for my post is to tell people that I am at this company as long as I am needed. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and no one deserves more (or less) than what they have as we build our own paths in life. Namaste.
