Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Brand Recognition

Whenever I see a WF bank branch or the logo out there in the news, I don't feel any connection to the company. It's almost as if the bank operates in a completely separate plane of existence than I do, despite 20+ years of paychecks received.

That has to say something right? I'm not bitter at all, simply wholly disconnected from the thing to which I earn a living.

It sounds all so wrong and certainly I sense huge missed opportunities on the bank's side to engage better with its workforce and also for me (what would it be like to work elsewhere).

I'll put money down I'm one of many at work right now while day dreaming about alternate scenarios.

I’m uncomfortable when people ask me where I work.

I just say, “at one of the banks” and then try to change the subject before they can ask which one.

Our temporary executive team left us, not the other way around. The people I work with every day are great people doing really good work. It's the blood su-king good for nothing sc-mbags in NYC that are the problem. We earn the money, and they spend it on firing loyal and knowledgeable employees and enriching themselves. F them. They want me gone they are going have to pay a years severance.

I have to agree and know most of my team is the same by the way they talk about their time here. It’s a shame how we are not getting the sense we are valued and I can’t imagine being here 20+ years. I have been at wells for 2 and already considering leaving.

Why would you stay somewhere for 20 years while feeling ambivalent about the situation?

Yeah, and S like this is why we're all going to be out of a job by the time Shart is through. Sorry you can't see the links between stupid decisions, horrible leadership, the bottom line and our headcount, but it's there regardless.

Hence why I just switched to Chase. Looking at the WF mobile app makes me feel like I'm looking at a web property made in 2001 by a couple community college students.

Heh, I used to be proud of where I work. Now I just say 'I work at the 4th largest crooked bank' in the US. They always guess wf.

It's astounding that we have "a winning culture" article on Teamworks. WFC is #2 LinkedIn "Top Companies to Grow Your Career" ? What??
On paper, WFC looks good. In reality, not so much. No news about the terrible results of the employee engagement surveys. How's that for transparency?

I remember when I used to be proud to tell people I worked here since working at a bank was considered a fairly prestigious role. Then I realized people started to hate us and I just started saying I worked "at a bank". Now it's simply "the financial industry".

FWIW I started avoiding dropping WF's name when asked at least a decade before the account scandal. Judging by the reactions of people who I do tell, WF is the low bar for just how bad a corporation can be viewed. We're worse in consumers' eyes than freaking cable companies, and people despise cable companies.

I totally agree with you OP. Working environment at WF has totally changed for the worse the past few years. Now we watch our backs.....
