You know what else is funny?
Out of all the FAANG Amazon has the worst offices.

And you all wonder why no one wants to RTO for T?

If I wanted to RTO and be miserable I’d just go to Amazon

Definitely less productive in the office.

Thing is, nobody cares how productive you are. You just need a checkmark on your attendance, and that's enough to pass the class.

Your achievements and contributions don't matter.

Amazon recently built/renovated a campus of office buildings in Arlginton, VA, so it has plenty of office space to accommodate employees for 5 day RTO.

Amazon also has better facilities in general. There isn't even a close comparison to be had between AT&T and Amazon, it's like choosing between a shelter and a luxury mansion.

Definitely less productive in the office. I keep getting pulled into side conversations with coworkers who don't want to be there either. Talk about sports, cars, family... anything but work. Easily ki-ls about 2 hours a day. But hey! We're collaborating!!! So we must be winning, right?

“There’s one thing I’ve learned about the people that are pro-RTO,
They aren’t fact or data driven, there’s no point is arguing with them.
Just let it go, it’s like politics, you aren’t going to change their minds.

They’re pro-RTO because they’re jealous and unhappy about so many high paid workers getting to work remote, see families, and be productive.
They are followers, and will do anything boss man says - if boss man said you have to punch yourself in the face 3 times a day before work, they’d happily comply.

Just say ‘ok’ to them and move on.”

Agree with every word except the families part. They love the office because they hate their families. Anyone who would rather spend time commuting instead of being with their family can’t be reasoned with.

Legg will reveal 5 day RTO while blushing and cold sweating during town hall next month, as Laforge does her evil chuckle in the background, bahhhhahaha

Anyone know where I can get a nice home office setup on the cheap??
I now work for a company that values its employees no matter the surroundings...I mean, they actually value the work I produce due to their qualified structure of hiring. I actually do the work of what I am educated & trained to do. Good luck finding that anywhere inside the T or other generational, regulated companies that now swim in the free enterprise world! They do not have middle management...all asks, tasks and prudent information flow seamlessly and understood by all. They do not need to ask their customers to grade them for TPNS scores, nor do they have to micromanage their employees. As a matter of fact, the Sales group has 1 sales expert per State, just to enhance the customer experience, not for performance base selling/upselling. I will digress for now, but rest assured i will stop by here and there just to let you know how things are going on my side...but you know, there is still something great about the dystopian ways of business from all the way back 10 years ago...just saying. Good afternoon all

Stupid is as stupid does. Totally pointless and you know they are going to do it here, because well, they like to follow the leader.

I don’t even see anyone from my team at the office and I’m in a major hub. We are scattered across multiple offices. We sit on teams chat and calls all day. I’ve seen my boss like 1 time in 3 years. I was FTW before covid. Yet, here I sit in an office 3x per week to satisfy some presence report. Completely pointless.

“ I also leave after my morning meetings before lunch, so i technically get paid for the commute.
Yeehaw.”

A good portion take their morning meetings at home in the AM and slide in just after lunch. It’s a good strategy because everyone is already beat down from the day and have become LCD zombies. They don’t notice anything at that point. Others badge in and disappear, taking all their calls on Teams as voice only. You know, it’s the “I’m not near my desk right now” people.

When I worked from home I logged in at 7:30am.
I collaborated with co-workers. We discussed open issues, roadblocks, workload, overlapping meetings and agreed on how we would divide and conquer.
We held adhoc meetings to strategize about changing requirements and how best to address client concerns while working around platform constraints. We pulled in a peer, a developer or others as needed and solved problems necessary to have a more productive day ahead.

We did all this before the 9:00 am onslaught of meetings began and the real work commenced.

Now with RTO, I arrive at 8:15 am, park, badge in, disinfect my work space, unpack, setup, plug in, log in, go to the bathroom, check emails and start my onslaught of meetings at 9:00 am. In case you are wondering why I don’t just get on the road earlier, su-k it up and arrive to work earlier to continue my former WFH routine, I can’t. My peers were let go in Wave 2.

Tell me you know nothing about being CEO and CTO without telling me.

In 5 days a week since last summer. If you were hired for 5 it shouldn't be a big deal. Would I rather work from home?sure but I was hired to work 5 and I take the time I had to work from home as a little bonus.

I mean, on the bright side, if T goes 5 days a week I’ll just have to coffee badge 5 days instead of 3.
Been doin it nothing has happened.

You can bet whomever came up with this loud, not having all the equipment needed, not having enough desks, not having assigned desks, open space concept doesn’t work in this environment Mon-Friday.

5 days will be here starting in 2025 , with an impending recession and still more headcount to trim , that's how it's going to play out..

“Where are we all going to sit? Seriously, where I’m officed you can’t hardly find a fully functional workstation Tuesday-Thursday.”

Some have said this to me, but I don’t think they care.
They know ~90% of people go in tues-thurs so it will only be a bit more packed with 5 days a week than it is now.

Yep, it’s going to be absolutely fu--ing miserable.

I’d honestly love going in if I only had my own godda-n office, fu-k whoever invented this open office concept that person needs to go to he-l.

It works in a small startup where everyone is working on the same product, it doesn’t work in a large company.

“Being held accountable for work is rough.”

Tell me you don’t know how work is done and you’ve never had anything besides an hourly job without telling me.

This isn’t 1990 where managers walk around looking at your screens dude.
I go to the office, sometimes I don’t see my director for weeks at a time.
Weeks.
I’m in the office he’s….somewhere.

Everything is digital, no one is looking over your shoulder in 2024 for most teams.

Going to the office daily holds no advantage for most teams, especially technical ones.
