We all agree that Stankey is the wrong choice, but who would be the right choice?

John Legere, would have it much simpler. Just replicate what he did at t-mobile and put customer #1 not verbally as Randal used to(which was a power move to say that employees weren't his priority) but actually make the customer's service ordering easier and transparent. Randall & Stankey come from the same school of making everything more confusing and as difficult as possible for customers to cancel their service or an array of hidden charges.

Note that Stank is not Elliott's first choice for Randall's replacement. One story from Sep 2019 where the takeaway is he is not their guy.

An article after the announcement where the takeaway is Stank got the job as a last choice because they could not find anyone else they were comfortable with and did not want to stir things up on the middle of the pansemicy. Note the comment about them being comfortable because he was not going to be purchasing any companies.

General Jim Mattis. Just read his book, he promotes Command and Feedback, he sets clear goals and enables his team to develop plan and execute. He obtains feedback without micromanaging people or constantly asking for status update. T management is only good at command and control, and getting rid of employee initiatives. Stankey know everything about TV, sounds familiar? Mattis also advocated for his marines when the sh– hits the fan and treated them fairly, fired commanders when they failed to lead.
McFresh had backtrack that not all 2019 goals were met when people started to ask why bonus isn't 100%. That is failure to lead and communicate. He knew long before that no all goals were met and conveniently skip that point until it was too late. Mattis would've fire him without blinking an eye.

My money would be on Ralph de la Vega. He is almost 70 but it’d probably only take him a few years to bring the company back to doing what it does best: connecting people.
