Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Opportunity to learn

Lately, I've been thinking about whether I would have learned more if all this time that I spent at Fiserv, I worked for another company in the industry.
Of course, the skillset upgrade and learning is primarily the responsibility of the individual, the employee, however, I wonder what you think, is Fiserv still a good place to learn?

@1nnu+1fi9HVOw seriously, Fiserv doesn't not heavily invest in associates and developing their skills. I'd really like to know what you definition of heavily invested in associates.

No, not a good company to increase your job skills. Taking classes is not the same as learning from job experiences. As said before, very siloed. However, in spite of the general negativity toward First Data, I felt there was more learning opportunities in my area after they came in. I was only there a couple years, and Fiserv folks were so set in their ways, it was hard to suggest improvements that I learned from other companies. That being said, Frank is a total id--t and incompetent CEO. Just saying from my experience.

You could learn but it’s difficult. Much of the technology is older. Many positions are siloed. Anything outside of their digital library is difficult especially if there is a fee such as dev nexus in Atlanta. Some of the digital library requires manager approval as it bears some cost to the company. Expect company to be stingy with training opportunities, compensation, and benefits.

It was a good place to learn and that was before the FData situation too. Most Fiserv staff came in, learned for 2 years and then got out for better. Pay was always sub-standard so it was not a long term gig. Some always make a go of it of course. But it was never a long term career gig save the fortunate few. I am not a FData shill by the way.

Actually a great company to learn from. It invests heavily in associate development. Several formal programs on everything from digital skill sets to leadership programs like leading Fiserv.
